No one is biting? That means I get three guesses? my first guess is my next two guesses are wrong. Two, it looks like a maple, but knowing you that's probably too common. My father says the natives in northern California used a yew tree to make long bows, so that's my third and final guess. Don't shoot your dick off.

Did I win?

No, although yew is highly considered as the best wood for bows

I own 6 vintage longbows and none of them are yew

maybe someday

Oh, so you are a window guy, that is a good respectable trade that requires a pretty good skill set to do well. Very cool, Buck.

Today is a shop maintenance day for me! Quick bandsaw tune up, lap my chisels, and then I have to clean up my table saw blade height adjustment, it feels gunked up. I think I may have to pull the top off but will be nice to get it done. Couple projects to glue up between fiddling. Great fun!

Oh, sorry, I know you don't like to talk woodworking with me! Have a nice day!
Pull the top off? What kind of table saw do you own?

Powermatic 66 cabinet saw. Easy to adjust now. Did have to take the top off, pull the gear that the worm drive turns, and get pitch off both the worm drive and gear teeth. Hit the lock key in the worm drive shaft with penetrating oil. Put it back together and reassembled the outfield table. Good as new.

L oh fucking el lapping and stropping, same shit right?
Lol, they are related for sure and maybe considered the same thing in some circles. I use the term lapping for water stone sharpening, and stropping I do after that to remove or minimize the burr on the blade tip using a strop and honing compound.

I've worked with powermatics, there is a small door in the front to empty any debris your vacation system doesn't get rid of. There is a small plate that fits around the blade, that is usaully replaced with a piece of quarter inch melamine to minimize blade blow out. Never heard of pulling the top, cabinet saws are generally attached to larger feed out tables and work benches, but you probably knew that. BTW, pro tip, using any kind of oil on wood working tools attracts dust, defeating the purpose of the lubricate, most guys use a silicone based or even graphite lubricants, youre welcome.

Stropping=leather
Lapping=film

For me anyhow although they are very distinct. I do a lot of chisel on my tormek and the lapping film is for wicked edges.

The penetrating oil is sprayed into a sealed shaft, no dust in there. You are describing a zero clearance insert. I'll likely make a new set now unless I got lucky.
