No, topping is cutting the tops to promote additional stem growth, thus more tops. I have no idea what you call what you've done. It looks like you were going to lollipop them and changed your mind. Never seen it done like that before.

Good to know what topping is though.
what I was doing is removing the bottom leaves that were suffering. I was thinking that this would help send more growth energy to the buds rather than to the suffering leaves shaded from the light.
Is what I did helpful or did I Farck up my babies.

Mother Nature knows best. Unless you're doing a scrog of sog, don't trim off anything once you're in flower as it reduces your yield. The plant will spend it's energy trying to replace the lost leaves rather than producing better buds. Dont remove ANY leaves unless they turn yellow and are about to fall off. It's best to read up on these things before you do something. You will fuck up your grow and possible kill it entirely.
