Trichome Development

I am curious where would be the best spot on the plant to take a sample to look at the trichomes.

It seems as I take random samples that sometimes I see amber tirchomes and then others I do not.

If I look at a fan leaf, I tend to see more amber tirchomes than if I were to look at small bud leaf.

I assume it has to do with new growth, and the newer growth will have less developed trichomes than the bigger fan leaves.

My question is, which should I pay more attention to? The actual bud and small bud leaves, or some of the larger fan leaves?

Obviously the fan leaves are older and more mature, but I don't know which I should focus my attention on.

If you have a good place to take a sample from that would be an accurate way of determining harvest by trichome color, please elaborate.

So i should snip a small piece of bud? Would the small "sugar" leaves suffice for an accurate examination?

I usually go to where the most trichomes are. More towards the top. I rip of piece off of a leaf that is closest to the bud and examine it under the microscope. I don't usually pick off actual bud. Good luck!

Paulio,

I have been doing the same as you. Snipping off a small leaf right by the bud that is covered in trichomes.

You're getting the hang of it, and with some time, you'll get a better feel for what you want. Remember, the buds and their parts are always forming new growth, and ripening old growth, so you are looking for a general trend. There will always be some very ripe parts, and some just ripened parts. Maybe on the same bud. And there will always be some new white pistils forming, so more buds and trichomes. :blsmoke:

I dont clip nothing off. I just stick my loupe all in that bitch!
I go around from bud head to bud head looking. Towards the end, I actually bend the bud open and look at some of the inner trichomes.

Its also as easy as pulling off one of the prickly looking leafs that stick out of the bud to look at. I always look at cola's and not fan leafs.
