Trich Heads Gone?

Hey,

I took some samples of my buds, im not sure when they started to flower but it's getting near. they were out @ about 20 of may. When i looked at the sample through the microscope, it appears that they "heads" of hte trichs are not so bulbous, they're almost not there. This makes me nervous, but i cant imagine that i missed harvesting bc its only sept 15...but at the same time, i expected them to be "headier". They're not all amber, alot of them are still cloudy adn the hairs certainly arent all red, there's still a significant amount that are white.

Plz, anyone who thinks that im being over analitical or who can offer some advice i'd appreciate it.

I haven't read anything 'bout trichs getting smaller after they develop. However multiple things can effect the size of the trichs. Age, hunidity, temp, feeding etc. Check the Growfaq and get back to us if there's a prob. Or give us more info, pix. Thanks GL HH

Any pics?to help see what the buds look like. Sept is possible for harvest depending on strain but you said may which is kinda later might be just small trichs due to feeding or other such variables

Types of trichomes from the FAQ https://www.rollitup.org/view.php?pg=faq&cmd=article&id=149

Heavy trichome production is not necessarily an indication of a potent plant. Some hemp strains have moderate layers of trichomes yet pack only a strong headache. In a drug strain, a thick layer of trichomes is a symbol that it may well posses an elevated potency level, but it is certainly not a guarantee.
Here is something this piece says that seems to go against what I read on the board:

Some cultivators wait for about half of the secretory cavities to go opaque before harvesting, to ensure maximum THC levels in the finished product. Of course nothing tells the truth more than your own perception, so try samples at various stages to see what is best for you & the phenotype your are growing. While you may be increasing the total THC level in the bud by allowing half of the glands to go opaque, the bud will also have a larger percentage of THC breakdown products such as CBN, which is why some people choose to harvest earlier while most of the secretory cavities are still clear.
This article seems to suggest harvesting while some of the trichs are still clear and doesn't seem to consider waiting til they turn amber. This article was posted in 2003 I believe so maybe thoughts on that have changed somewhat?
