Transplanting Help

Hi all and thanks for looking over this post. Using an ebb and flow system my plants are from 7" to 8" tall and I'd like to start flowering. However, I've noticed that a few roots are poking out of the bottom of my containers (5 x 5" squares, roughly 6" in height) in rockwool slabs. My questions are: Should I even bother transplanting? And if so, do I then delay flowering them? What size container given the approximate size now? I plan on giving them 36 hours darkness to push them into flowering but I'm worried that transplanting now will stress my plants too much in a critical time. Also, since I am using rockwool slabs should I be transplanting into rockwool as well so the mediums aren't different? Again, thanks all for looking and hopefully helping. Edit: I've read about double potting (cutting bottom out of pot to allow root development further down) If I do this by pretty much sawing off the bottom of my pots this will also end up cutting the tips of the roots as well? Any clarification on this and the ramifications? I'm thinking just not doing anything and end up with a slightly stunted crop and learning from my mistakes here.
