And so it seems, the bullshit gets deeper! According to Freedom of Seeds, Big Budha Seeds has trademarked " Cheese" as a strain name for seeds! Personally, i'll boycott every seed company that does this, and when they've all done it, they can go fuck themselves, I'll grow strictly my own!

This is from FOS posting:

We have received news that the Big Buddha Seed Co have been granted full European rights over the trademark name Cheese in relation to cannabis seeds.

That’s right - in a bid to corner the market the Big Buddha Seed Co have managed to convince that they were in fact the first to create the strain 'Cheese' in seed form.

What does that mean for Cheese cannabis strains?
It means that any other seedbank that feature strains with Cheese in the name soon won’t be able to do so.

It's our understanding that the Big Buddha Seed Co will be licensing the name 'Cheese' - granting permission to select seedbanks to use the name. As yet we're not sure who those seedbanks are likely to be however.

The implications of this are huge however. It potentially means no more Cheese from the following seed banks:

Barney’s Farm, Dinafem, Green House Seeds, Dutch Passion, Delicious Seeds, Female Seeds, Royal Queen Seeds, and Humboldt…

We’re not sure what other seed banks have up their sleeves, but no doubt we are set to see some interesting changes in the seed world!

I think that's a copyright ripe for being contested. Those fuckers just bought themselves a ton of legal bills.

Admin is correct once these low end suppliers starts

we can expect a free for all

the sales pitch is from dinafem and is typical of how other, euros see the exodus strain:

A legendary variety which originated in the UK. Its history is simple and, for many valid reasons, its genetics are the most well-known throughout the country. For countless people in the UK, an essential reference for knowing if a variety of cannabis is worthy is its comparison with cheese.
The reason for this? Its intense, long-lasting and aromatically Indica taste of cheese, something similar to a strong, well-cured, vintage cheese, the type of cheese that makes your mouth water when you think of it. Obviously, there’s more than just flavour to this strain. The coat of crystals which cover the flowers of this aromatic variety is dense enough to induce you to smoke it rather than eat it with bread and a fine wine! It produces a well-balanced effect, a physical and cerebral mixture. Therefore, it contains a noticeable amount of CBD, which softens the amount of THC contained in the resin. With 8 week flowering and lush heavy harvests, it has been included among the Top Ten by all the coffee-shops in Amsterdam and awarded a prize in the High Times Cannabis Cup, not to mention the tens of thousands of “Brits” crazy about this variety. This all fits in to the scene of success and international recognition that it has obtained.
Its aspect is languid, with long outstretched leaves and slim stalks, an heirloom from its skunk ancestry, but the flowers it produces are thick and plentiful and, when exposed to the adequate low temperatures, obtain a light violet colour.
Destiny chose it to be originally developed within the safety measures of an underground movement in the UK, an alternative squatter’s community called Exodus. In the 1990s, it became a centre for cannabis activities which was more or less tolerated by the local authorities and which resulted in a variety which is now nº 1 in the UK.
It can be classified as a highly commercial variety, comparable to Big Bud, Skunk#1, Power Plant, or Critical+, as these varieties, together with Cheese, are heavy yielders, quick and compact. However, what is paramount is that this strain captivates everyone that has the opportunity to try it due to its mild taste, medium effect and the overall pleasant feeling it produces.

Exodus Collective
The Exodus Collective are largely recognised as one of the UK's leading examples of a DIY community, providing practical and challenging `downside-up' solutions to social exclusion. Their free community dance events (see free party), social housing projects and city farm have gained recognition and high praise from all around the world.

The effective start of the Exodus free party scene began on 5 June 1992 when Spokesman Glenn Jenkins, DJ Hazad and friends, using equipment reclaimed from a skip, promoted a free party in the woods near Dunstable through word of mouth in local pubs. Raising money through donations at the first and subsequent parties, and reinvesting in equipment, the size of both sound system and attendance grew rapidly from an original 150 to 10,000 by the end of 1992.

They put on free parties most weekends in the grounds of their collective home and then put on larger parties which attracted thousands, every few weeks, in various locations including quarries, woods and other beautiful country spots. Usually following the line of Jungle or Drum and Bass at night and then Techno once the sun had risen, Exodus spearheaded the UK dance music scene for over a decade. Many arrived at the parties in convoy, assembling in an industrial estate and then moving slowly into an empty warehouse or onto open land. The convoy was led by military-type vehicles, including army-type lorries and even a small reconnaissance tank. Local police, largely following a containment or management strategy, allowed Exodus marshals to take over road traffic management in order to avoid traffic chaos.

Ok, lets take Cheese as a strain, HOW many companies sell Cheese or a variant there of? Its a fucking plant! They created NOTHING, they just let 2 plants breed. Do you grow veggies? Would you pay $25 a seed for a single "Big Boy" trademarked tomato seed? No, this whole market is all about money, you don't mean shit to them, just what's in your wallet. No? Then what about 80% of seed is Fem only? is it just market demand, or a way to a strain controlled? Both most likely.
And have you seen the news that good old, trailer trash Roseanne Barr is coming out with her own 'brand" of weed? This is where its all headed......
I've been anticipating this and have made a few crosses of my own I'm happy with, so if shit gets to ridiculous, I'll just grow my own!

I was just gonna post about the IP shenanigans: it was in a recent issue of DOPE magazine.

a coalition of breeders in WA/ORE, are/were filing motions w/medical CW/patents on medications.

grounds its a pharmaceutical. this would give said rights. but you must file the patent before approval w/ the food and drug administration.( can take ten years to get a drug approved)
they claim its has already been on medical trial in some states since 1996. ( a line of men in suits with banker boxes with medical data)

the author goes on to explain why states have been able to free cannabis, but that it maybe short lived if people try and dig to deep in "corporatizing" that would allow more federal regulations.

in short, people got too greedy and that exposes itself to more federal regulation.

I personally hate the term "the industry" it irks me. makes me almost not wanna go to the canna expo even though its 4 miles from my house. the circus of hipsters with vapes and product venders ugh...I just want to go to the key notes and panel discussions. and fuck the rest.

anyone else going, we can meet up and sit together, the RIU section.
