Total DWC/Bubble noob - Help me get this straight

I'm even attaching a picture to illustrate what's in my head and what I understand.

Take a bucket, something to hold a medium and allow roots through (like a pencil-wide hole net and lava rock,) an air pump, line, and a large airstone, and basically watch my nute, water, and EC levels?

Forgive the jive on the left side, I was stoned when I drew this, and kept having this advertiser's voice in my head just screaming this stuff.

Okay, one final question (I don't need to ask much, I can easily figure things out thanks to engineering classes.)

Should that air pump run continuously even in dark cycle or should I have it go on-off with the lights? It would seem keeping the roots constantly bubbling would be the thing to do to avoid drying out and root rot.

Right, air pump stays on 24/7 through out the entire grow.

Cheers!

The air pump will run 24/7 to supply oxygen to the roots, to avoid root rot. (pythium)

Remember too, you have to regulate the pH, and Temps of water and the temperature of the room.

Room temp won't be an issue, water temp *might* but then again spring is on the way so maybe I'll need to worry more about cooling it than keeping it warm enough.

Would blowing cool air through the airstone and into the water work to chill the water? I have a cat water recirculator that cools the water to 8 degrees below ambient room temp so I'd assume the cold air bubbling through the water would do just as well.

I've done high-circulation ebb and flow before, never DWC. This should be fun.

that WILL work. You need a water temp about like the earth, at 12 to 18 inches deep, which is like 68 to 74 degrees.

If you need info on CFLS, lumens, etc, just post.

You might want to consider a DRIP FEED, so you can start seeds in the system, instead of needing clones or sprouts to start in the DWC system.

I use an underwater pump and irrigation hub, with feeding tubes to each cup and root base. Makes an amazing FAST grow.

I'm good on the CFL info. :) At my wattage CFL won't be as efficient as an HID/T5HO combo.

I don't think I'm going with a drip feed, as I'm going to start from clones. I want the speed and starting from seed is going to add a couple extra weeks to the process. I might make a separate tray for seeds, should I choose to. I'm going to be growing more than cannabis in my closet, so yes I guess the tray for seedlings would be an idea. A little ebb and flow system will work for them.
