Topping/Pruning/Super Cropping? ADVICE!!!

I have some clones, and a couple plants I started from seeds also. The clones are just wrapping up there first week in soil and are all doing well. I was curious about what people think the best way is to go about max yielding good product. I have read about so many different ways and heard this and that. This is my first grow!!! I think topping sounds the easiest from what I have read. You just clip the top (which can then be a clone right?), then the plant develops two or more branches there like a "V"?
I read that you do your choice of pruning, topping, ect. during the 3rd-4th week of veg, true or false?

ANY ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED. NEW AND NEED ALL I CAN GET!
