Topping Plants?

Anybody agree with it or have good results? Any advice? and what node should it be done at? when light is on or off? does it matter? any advice would be appreciated.

This is my first time growing so I'm no expert, but I used the FIM technique outlined in the FAQ and it worked great for me. Slowed upward growth dramatically, the girls got significantly bushier and multiple colas might form (looks like they will, still in veg though).

I recommend it.

anyone else have advice on how to do it?

There's nothing to it, really. It's up to you when and how much to top off. People do it to increase colas, but also to control height.

Me, when I top a plant, I usually cut the upper 3 or 4 nodes and give the new tops about 14-18 days before I bud. So its something I reserve for the last half of the veg cycle.

All your doing is letting the lower branches catch up to the same vertical height as the upper growth, then you can bud more plant at the same distance from the light, and hopefully improving your yield a little bit.

you let your plant get about 5-6 nodes tall and then top at the 2nd true node (about an half an inch above)

this allows your plant to get a good root system going before you top her.

you can all so read Uncle Ben's topping technique in the advanced cultavation section

this will give you two to four main colas

here is a few pics showing what i harvested and the branch stucture of a plant that was topped using UB technique

i topped mine, then after the tops grew a bit i began bending the tops down to be a little lower than the next set of nodes and so far doing really good it almost looks as if it has four tops

I don't like to cut my plants. I separate all the new growth where it all meets the stem and there should be a little ball looking thing where the newer growth is coming. I pull that off.
