Topping at 6ft plus?...

Well, this is my query, I actually just chopped a nice chunk of vertical growth off one of my Early Skunks in my "reject patch" that already had one topped girl that had been knocked over in a storm (now looking amazing) and her friend that was transplanted two weeks ago the is growing horizontally, so the one I just chopped about 25 min ago was about 4 1/2 ft tall and I cut about 8/10 in of perfect vertical growth just because I wanted to experiment with that patch, they are all showing preflowers and staggering at the internodes, now I've got 6 others Early Skunks that are already 7ft and I'm worried about the height and top heaviness... Can I still top them at this stage in mid/late veg? I should have topped them earlier as I am so pleased with how bushy and sturdy they become, I'm just afraid they will become 10 footers and be difficult to manage, any input is welcome ;) I've got the cutting on my kitchen table :) Early Skunks get to be 2-3 meters so you get my drift, they're so damn stalky...

That was alot to sift through but I think this is your question.

My answer is yes, thats fine topping or fimming will just divert growth to the lower branches and restrict vertical growth.

If It were me I would just fim the top and not top it, you could save a few node sites at the top which will become another seperate branch each.

During the flowering stage those short braches that you see just developing at the top of the main shoot will stretch considerably and become short colas.

it's no problem topping at this stage, but you want to do it sooner rather than later because of the time of the season.

You waste yield you could have received when you top 8-10" off when you coould have just bent it over and tied it down or supercropped it. my 2 cents

I know it is just your extra reject patch but hey I like every bud I can get over here.

Thanks for the responses, yeah I should have tied down the one I topped instead of reducing its potential, could have a few less colas but I hope she'll be nice and dense and compact :) Now for the 7ft Skunks I think I'm going to need a ladder to fim/top those! I'm kicking myself in the ass for not having intervened earlier, oh well...

Well... I guess I could still top my biggies but they're already so damn tall, thanks to everyone for the advice, it seems I can still cut but all my ladies are starting to stagger at the internodes and there is sooo much buddage potential in the "peak" of the plant, I didn't have much time in May and June to manicure my plants, my biggest concerns were water, nutrients and keeping the local flora in check around my babies, a week here and a week there and now they're monsters, (killer weather this year) I'm getting lazy... I think I'll just let 'em go... But I'm really pleased with my topped and LST plants, much more interesting and so stout, I want bushes, not trees!
