Too Much Light?

I have a cooled 400W MH that is around 12" from the tops. The temp is 88 with lights on and 72 at night. I have been observing that the plants in the middle of my grow room (4X3) have much lighter colored leaves compared to the plants more on the side of my grow room. Could this be due to too much light? Is this harmful or stun growth?

Peace.

i've seen grows with thousands of watts used so it cant be that your temp is a little high leaf color could also be strain related or due to nitrogen

It's the same strain. The plants with more light seems specklked with differnet shades of green and the veins seems darkest whereas the plants on the side have a more uniform darker green.

I've heard that if you spray the leaves with a mist of water and have a lot of light it can magnify the light in places. Maybe that's what's going on...

It dose sound like they are getting too much light. I would rotate the plants so the ones in the center are on the outside and see what happens to the plants in the center. Maybe back the light up 2or 3 more inches.

Thanks for the advice! I switched two plants last night and the leaves of the one now more closer to the light is starting to turn lighter particulary the top ones. So I increased the distance to 18" instead of 12". Let's see if they turn back green again.... The light reader right next to the light reads 5000 ft candles and where the plants used to be at 4000 and now its around 3500 ft candles. what ever that is supposed to mean. How does this translate to lumnes? Maybe someone can make more sense out of these numbers:confused:

By the way my plants are now 4 weeks old from seed. Big Mamama, the name of the biggest plant is now a little over a foot tall and wide, top leaves have now 9 blades, its braniching out at the internodes and the biggest leaves are around 4" long and wide.

cheers

It could take a day or two.

Yeap, they are tunring greener again after two days.
So what does this mean? Is it good or bad? I have two theories:

A. Good? Lighter green is desired. The number of clorophyll molecules made are a waste of energy therfore better to have the plants more pale which may be interpreted to be a sign of less chlorophyll molecules required to sustain maximal growth.

B. Bad? Lighter green is a sign of stress. As light becumes excessive heat buildup and free radical production start damaging cells and leading to bleaching of chorophyll.

Any insight to these two theories?

Cheers

With out the clorophyl the plant will not be able to survive. I would go with option B. My only concern is that lighter color leaves is not always a sign the plant is stresed. Glad to see that the plants have recovered.
