hey i have 2 female plants in the flowering cycle. I have 4 100 W CFL's over them. Do you think this is too much light for each plant?

That's wrong. You can get light burn.
All plants intake only so much light before they deflect it, then they get to a point where thy can't even deflect it anymore....
Most people under do or over do their own light set ups.
People think that having 1000 watt on one plant, the plant will be a monster, this is false.
OP: You should add more cfls. somewhere is a lighting chart, use search.

5-7000 lumens per sq ft much more and your wasting electricity/.. the sun puts out 10000 psf on a clear day in direct sunlight

Like joepro said there is such a thing as light burn, but you gotta be pushing some major wattage around to see it. When you say you have 4x100 watt CFL I am assuming they are EQUIVALENT to 100 watt Incandescent bulbs and are not actually 100 watts, more like 26 watts used. 4x26 watts is barely enough to grow 1 meager plant, try using 16 of those bulbs or one 400 Watt HPS. the HPS will use the same amount of electricity but will supply about 40% more actual light to the plants and have a bit less heat overall. You will not be able to get light burn from a 400 watt HPS, you will probably need to be within inches of a 1000 watt light to see any light burn, but that close would probably just cook the plant instead due to plain heat if not in a cool tube.
