Too late to transplant?

Hi, I have fairly large indoor plants that are in way too small containers, but I'm 4 weeks into flower. (1st run) Probably no point transplanting now? (transplant shock vs. rootbound slow down?)
Water does still drain through, but they are excessively root-bound. You almost need a hammer to get get moisture/pH probe down into pot. (Not by choice, I got these started in a secondary location while awaiting the 'license' for my legal grow and I just had no room for bigger pots/plants. I wanted to transplant before moving to their new home, and the light flip, but buddy told me my already too tall plants would explode upward if I did.)
Question is, if I transplant now, will the happier roots use all plant energy to expand themselves....and stop bud growth? Or will this healthier root system give me a better final 4 weeks? The 'stretch' is done, buds are growing decently, but not crazy fast. pH, temps, humidity are all good.....
Next question, (for next time I guess) how long before flip to do final transplant.
I now have separate mother, clone, veg & flower rooms. Clones are cut 3 weeks before harvest. 8 week old vegged plants go into flower room, and 3 week old clones go in for their 8 week veg. (Shaping for 16+ even height tops, 3' x 3' canopy, with one 315w cmh over each plant.) Clones in Solo cups until rootbound, then to 1 gal. until rootbound, then to 3 gal. until rootbound & I want to finish in 7 gal. I want these wide, well shaped monster bushes because of license restrictions. I have way more available space than plants I'm allowed.
Another question, would I be better off converting veg & flower rooms to 'multi-purpose' whole life rooms.....with shorter veg time & quicker turn-over. Right now, it's every 8 weeks for a harvest of larger plants, if I went to 4 week veg & then flower, it would be every 6 weeks with smaller plants.
So much to learn!!
Yes, I know it's all a matter of personal preference, but love the input from the community.
Thx.

We usually try to have plants in their finishing pots while still in the veg room. As you still have a month to go I'd transplant asap. If you are using plastic pots you can slice off the bottom of the pot and set it into a larger pot.

Good luck, BigSteve.
