the buds that have 2/3 red hairs can be taken off 2 dry. as for the white haired buds, i highly recommend u listen 2 pureblood. wait till they are 2/3 all red/brown.

honestly, when a plant is ripe and totally ready it wont have very many hairs at all. they will all recede into the buds, and the hairs still showing will be redish brown and short. although about 99.9% of growers have never waited this long.

I usually wait till 75% of the hairs are red/brown/orange and the bud has a goldish color to it (the trichs turning amber and being mature)

my thoughts exactly, seriouslly, lol, i was going to say the exact same thing in those exact same words.
trichomes are more important than the hair color when determining harvest time. thats what you should go with.
there are amber and cloudy trichs. but the hairs are still white

if the trichs are to your liking its ready to chop. cloudy trichs usually make a body high, amber trichs cause a couch lock type high.
once the hairs start to wither and the trichs are good its ready to chop.

ive been growing for a couple of joints and ive been very patient my last grow and let it finish the full 12 weeks until the pistils receded into the bud and the flavors pop out at you from the first "test" sample and get really intense after a full 6 weeks of curing....fuck the trichs my man let that bad girl mature fully 10-12 weeks

trichs aren't leafy looking at all. through a mag or scope they look like little clear/cloudy/amber colored mushrooms

The trichs are the little mushroom looking things. They have a thin stalk and a round globe at the top. When those globes are milky and those stalks are nice and straight that is when I harvest. Some will wait until the TRICHS are amber or starting to turn amber. As soon as I start to see them turning amber, I harvest. So I basically harvest when all the trichs are milky and are just about to start to turn amber..

im telln ya, flavor and overall ripeness has nothing to do with trichs. the trichs turning amber/cloudy is in the genetics. once a certain amount turn amber they will stop, depending on the genetics, and the buds will continue to ripen.
Actually trichs changing colors is a chemical process "decarboxilization" fancy word for drying. It is very much a biochemical process of the plant and not strain specific. Trichome size and shape are strain specific, this is why sativas will have longer thinner trichomes where Indicas will have shorter and fatter trichomes. Certian Indica varities were actually developed strictly to make hash with due to their specific trichome structure.
The turning from clear to milky to amber has nothing to do with the strain, just the actual chemical process. Just as in the same way the longer you go to harvest the higher levels of CBD and CBN and as soon as trichomes are turning amber, you are actually degrading the THC at that point but you will be increasing the CBD and CBN.
