Tomatoes!

I am growing some Beefstake Tomatos and i heard that you should water,water,water But when i did that last year the tomatos seamed to split from the top on the ridges. Is this bad and how do i keep them from spliting like that? Thanks

But tomatos dont like to be dry so watering to little and they wont be as good. . .

Water just enough to keep the tomatoes looking happy and healthy. Give them too much water, the tomatoes will grow faster than the skin can grow and you will see them slit open and then you will get rot.

Thank you Dirty Harry, alsow i have foxfarm the 3 lineup that i use for my ladys can i use that food for tomatos aswell? And should i follow the same feeding schedule as my weed plants?, or go lighter or heavyer on fert?

Well, when I grow tomatoes I just use a liquid tomato fertilizer using a low PPM until established and then just follow the dosing instructions on the bottle, checking PPM to make sure it is not excessive. Don't wast your expensive nutes. Get a cheap bottle of liquid tomato feed. You do not need to treat tomatoes with the same TLC as cannabis, unless you grow hydroponic.
Just treat it like a garden plant and follow the instructions on the bottle. Don't waste expensive pot nutes for a normal plant and tomato fertilizer is designed for a food plant. Won't leave chemical taste in the fruit, unless you really over do it, and is safe for human consumption...But I would not drink the stuff straight up.

tomatoes do not like it wet or soggy. yes they like water but not drowned. tomatoes plants like to dry up a bit before the next watering, not bone dry but almost. after this water the plants thoroughly and repeat.

He is right. Let them wilt a little and then you know they want water.

I thought when the skin splits, its because the tomatoes have inadequate water and
split.

Alot of mine have been splitting lately....

Too much water?

I'm getting about 2 lbs per day now, with my biggest harvest of about 4.5 lbs yesterday.

could be to much water to close to harvest, ive noticed this becuase with a big watering they sem to get to fat to fast and split, but hey some types do it no matter what, i got beef steaks that im sure some will crack but they will still be good eating

i grow my maters in almost the same way i would with OD herb....right down to soil mix and fertz are close. im gonna be jumping in on a indoor ethno grow soon. so ive been reading up on all sorts of growables

i like to let it have a day atleast of "dry" soil...... for the most part they are moderately soiled. I just dot the lift the pot to feel for wetness/heaviness and in ground its easy to tell by drooping dry leaves. I forget the name of it, but this type is the earliest ive come across. already have a half dozen juicy tomatoes in a few days.
