To hang or not to Hang???

So I have a question that I hope will invoke the responses of the more learned of the rollitup society; and it is a simple one too... after harvesting the plant and cutting everything, should I use the "hang on the string" method? or is there a better way to do it? Because, while I don't remember where I read it, I speceifically remember reading that upside down hanging lead to damaging trichomes... so what is the correct path to follow!?

and one more question, I am using the GO line for my plants... so do I need to do the traditional 2 week flush prior to harvest that I read about with all the other grows I follow on here? And if so, how do I know when to start flushing if you dont really know when to harvest until you see clouding in the trichomes? Like basically, I feel you wouldnt know when the actual 2 week mark was until after the fact.

Thanks in advance guys, I look forward to seeing what has to be said!

I have a 5 layer cureing rack.. called Quick cure or something.. I have tested only hanging, and drying on the rack.. Nugs turnedout the same though on the rack they seemed to be rdy to jar 1-3 days sooner than the ones hanging. Due to the moisture in the stems I am guessing. I now hang my buds, then rack them, manicured and into a brown bag for a day or two.. then jar. >:O I try to make it dry as Slow as possible.

I vote for hanging.

Air can circulate around all the buds, more even temperatures can be maintained and what with trichomes being a bit gooey and sticky at times, if you lay them down on something down or rack them, you will lose at least some small percentage of trichomes that will either split open or break off due to contact with whatever is used and or sticking to whatever is used. While it might be a minor percentage, it is a percentage that can be cut down or cut out by proper hanging.

When you combine those things, logic dictates hanging is the best way to dry unless doing so is utterly impractical.

The only thing I'd flush is the toilet as far as hanging in darkness, yes, that's what I do and that' what the grow bible says.

So what about the flushing question? and do you hang in complete darkness?

light degrades thc over time so hanging in the dark would be optimal. depends on who you ask about flushing.. im in bubbleponics and flush every 3 weeks for salt build-up in the root mass. and i cut out most nitrogen about a week before chop. some people flush with plain water for the last 2 weeks to force the plant to use up the stored nutes in the leaves as they believe this gives the buds a better taste. i'm against this because the last 2 weeks are a crucial time for flower production in terms of resin, trichs and swelled calyxs. cutting down on nitrogen in the last week will do you justice along with a tight manicure job, but completely flushing is something i dont agree with. but im sure you can hear about the other side of the coin from someone else on here... to each is own.. just my input :)

CHEERS :bigjoint:

Well I understand what you are saying, but I have heard that flushing is not necessary for organic grows because the soil only has organic nutes rather that salt build up from chemicals... any truth or light to be shed on this?

I will not be flushing my next round, seeing as it will be with subcool mix & will only be feeding plain water (+ molasses). Also using plain ffof feeding with 100% organic compost teas I will Not be flushing.

When I used Fox Farm line of bottled nutes, I always flushed. Just because the Bottle says organic I do not buy it.. This time I have all organic materials, instead of bottled line of nutes.

dude, if you're using organics and have been feeding correctly there isnt going to be salt build ups, if you flush those plants you FLUSH 20% extra weight down the shitter.

Hang em upside down, doesnt damage trichs... lol what a joke.

Edit: sad part is soil growers think they NEED to flush when using chem nutes, some do it every week! so hilarious. Fact is these people are feeding the plant TOO MUCH SHIT, so this requires them to be flushed because of all the shit they've been feeding the poor plant. God knows what kinda unnessesary "MAGICAL JUICE" additives some of these people use.

You wanna see the results of not drowning your plants at a crucial stage of bud development?

going out on a limb here with a wild suggestion

why not hang some of it up, and some of it, nug it up and lay it out
then work out for yourself which you like best and which is more convenient for you

peace :)

So what I am surmising is if I am using General Organics bottle line it would be better to flush?

I wouldn't flush with this line. In fact, I'd even feed on the heavy side depending on your strain. I have been running GO for 1 and 1/2 grows so far. One thing I have noticed is this shit is super mild. I had mad deficiencies late bloom in my last garden from feeding too lightly and flushing too often. This time around I am feeding them much heavier and the plants are looking a lot better for it.

With RO water I have been feeding approx. 10ml of CaMG+, 15ml of grow or bloom and about 10ml of each of the corresponding additives per gallon. Which is higher than their recommended feeding, but the plants are much happier with the higher concentrations. I would however cut out the cal-mag for the last couple weeks of your bloom. Too much mg will make your buds taste bad.

EDIT: PS. I'm in coco coir which is a little nute hungry anyway, but just figured I'd share my exp. with this line.

flushing is for hydro not soil..... and it depends on how much fertilizer and what kind u are using

hanging is better....with the leaves on the plant...this allows for a slower drying of the nugs and

in a dirt grow the buds stay fluffier & do not compress

real simple.

if you used bottled nutes, dont use any nutes the last week or two and feed with regular water. that is all the flushing you need.

for smoothest smoke, hang dry the whole plant leaving the sugar trim on the buds. it causes the drying time to lengthen by a couple days which allows for the natural chemical breakdown of the sugars, carbs, hormones and helps the buds retain their density(more for texture then weight) and also protects them. the difference between a fast dry and a slow dry is noticable after your medicinal herb pallet is experienced.
