To Grind or not to Grind?

My question is do u lose any THC from the bud when u grind it up? Seems that all that pulverizing would break up a lot of trichs and lose some potency.

Any thoughts?
 
yeah some thc falls off, but if you have a good grinder, it will have a kief catcher, so you can save all of those yummy crystals.
 
If you have a screen that separates the kief then you obviously lose potency. I generally use my 2 piece grinder (no separation screen) because it maintains potency.

I guess if you want to save kief for later that's useful, but why make your cannabis weaker when you smoke when you can just make hash?
 
a coffee grinder is contained.
using scissors crystal will fall everywhere.
my coffee grinder is very rough (lol) but the keif cant escape the grinder.
 
i've been using a grinder for the last couple of years, and although some trics fall into the bottom, its surely not enough to notice any kind of difference in potency from what i've experienced.. and i love to make some pressed hash from the kief that i collect in the bottom..
plus, i think that weed burns soo much better once its gone through a grinder, and its awesome for rolling joints with..
 
if u use a 2 piece grinder it keeps all the thc that falls off and the grinded bud together so wen you empty it out u dnt lose any potency at all. i always scrape the thc from the grinder if thc does build up and wont cum out. i gotta agree that grinded bud alot better and is easier and quicker to roll 1 up.
 
I grind 100% of my bud anymore, it just seems to burn better and smoke better usually. I also have a decent 3pc that only lets the finer trichs fall through, most of the rest still end up going in with the 'pinch' (though i tend to give ita quarter turn when placing it in the bowl as to not let that dust fall in when not using a screen). As the kief catcher builds up ill just use it to top bowls later.

Im a bit medicated, so im not sure how much sense any of that made ;D
 
I too use a grinder with a screen to catch the kief. It takes quite a bit of herb for the bottom chamber to build up enough to make pressed hash. However, after awhile one can always top off a bowl with a small sprinkle. I can't tell tell a differnce and get quite high. Plus grinding the herb for me is a great way to conserve it. I'll usually grind 2.5 grams of dank and put that in my little glass jar.
 
I'm a scissor man myself. Over a card with a crease in it (something like a b-day card) I will cut up a nug just enough that it will burn evenly in the bowl. Then I dump and tap the card into the bowl so everything goes directly in the pipe.

It just seems like too many of the trichomes stick to the teeth of the grinder.

But if I had plenty of herb all the time, I would probably just use a grinder with the keif catcher in the bottom.

You can over grind with Coffee grinders, almost to dust.

Breaking it up with your fingers is prob the worst. Trics stick to your hands.e

Either way dank is dank, I doubt you would notice a difference.

Agreed. I cringe when I see someone break up a nug in the palm of their hand using their fingers. lol
 
i put a shiny nickle in my grinder just before the screen and after the grinder
i never did like pure kief...donno why
hands down the coffee grinder for me...the plastic catch cup on mine has enough static cling to catch all the magic dust and still leave passable smoking material in the bottom
i can adjust the dosage as i need it that way

wait..i lie....
i like my stores to be dry lately, so it pretty much crumbles the moment it's touched....don't need grinders currently
 
Any way you break up bud you will loose some of the crystals, the benefit of using a grinder is that you at least save what you would be loosing.

If its really tasty bud I use my fingers though, and break it up chunkier, giving MUCH more taste in the smoke. (When in a blunt of j)

This seems counter-intuitive to me, if it is ground up more air can pass by more surface area of the bud, thus increasing taste. I use a grinder every single time, unless I'm on the go and just have some bud tossed into a dugout so I can just mash a oney down there and pack it.

Plus a J filled with nicely ground MJ just rolls SO nicely.:joint:
 
You destroy far more glands breaking it up by hand. At least with the grinder you can recover them, but I hate grinders with pollen catchers. I just use my kiefbox to roll on, it works great.
 
Grinder all the way, 3 stage space case grinder is just perfect. Slices rather than grinds and the bud ends up fully powdered and the kief catcher is very fine plus it would take at least a quarter of dried dank to create any noticable kief so the potency isnt lost at all and the kief is perfect when pressed in the lovely pollen press for a rainy day.
