Timing question

When do you start counting days on your flowering period? Do you start counting days the first day you go to 12/12 or do you wait till you see the first pistils to start counting days cause that could put my timing or where I think I am in my cycle off by a good week. I think Im about 4 weeks into flowering now. I'll attatch some pics. My girl is also currently recovering from a good case of nute burn. Oops, my bad! I got carried away with the Pro Bloom a week ago. And before you guys all tell me at once, yes I know my girl is quite stretched. This is my first grow and that was a newbie mistake I made. The buds she has on her all look healthy and are covered in crystals. It was bagseed so I have no idea what it is. I've got her under a 150 watt hps and 5 2700k, 23 watt cfl's. I've also got a flourescent tube in there. All feedback is appreciated cause I'm really hoping to end up with some good smokable bud in a few more weeks. What do you guys think?

flowering starts when flowers appear(when sexually mature) and not when the light is switched to 12/12.
going 12/12 induces flowering(force flowering) but i will take a few days untill you see flowers appear and thats the start of flowering(not when you switch the light to 12/12).
how can a plant be flowering if i does not have any flowers?????????.
a plant will eventually flower when left on 18/6 (6-8 weeks vegg) and thats the start of flowering regardless of photoperiod (light schedule).
if you switch to 12/12 before you see preflowers then you wait untill you see flowers starting to appear and thats the start of flowering(maybe 5-10 days after switching to 12/12).
so when you see flowers thats the start of flowering.
basically a plant is not flowering untill it shows flowers regardless of photoperiod.

The day you go to 12/12.

I'm growing a 65 day strain. If I start counting the day I go to 12/12 the trichs are PERFECT at 65 days. Get yourself a microscope to view the trichs.

sorry mate but you are wrong.

I respectfully disagree. Primordia (preflowers) will show will show somewhere around 5-6 weeks if it's in veg but that has nothing to do with when the flowering duration starts. It starts when you go to 12/12 regardless of plant age. Using primordia(preflowers) to identify sex is handy if you are growing from beans and want to take clones without forcing flowering and then cranking back up your light to 18 to cause the flowering clones to revert back to veg. That doesn't mean it cant begin the flowering process prior to then nor does it mean that the flowering period hasn't officially started. I flower my clones as soon as they take root. That is also when the plant is considered "sexually mature".

how can a plant be flowering if it has none??????????.
regardless of photoperiod.
flowering starts when flowers appear and thats that(quite simple to understand).

Female Plant
The female plant generally starts to flower later than the male, under either natural light or an artificially controlled photoperiod. Female marijuana plants flower when the average daily photoperiod is less then about 12 to 13 hours. However, some varieties and individuals may flower with a photoperiod of over 14 hours. Some Colombian varieties may not respond until the photoperiod falls below 12 hours for a period of up to three weeks.
The duration of flowering also depends on the particular rhythm of the variety, as well as growing conditions, and whether or not the plant is pollinated. Within these variables, females maintain vigorous growth and continue to rapidly form flowers for a period that ranges from 10 days to about eight weeks.

that quote does not make sense.
you are saying the plants(still in vegg)will show flowers after 5-6 weeks.
if it shows flowers after 5-6 weeks in vegg then thats the start of flowering and not when you switch the photoperiod.
no flowers=not flowering.

FLOWERING

The plant will be induced to fruit or flower with dark cycles of 11-13 hours that simulate the oncoming winter in the fall as the days grow shorter. As a consequence, it works out well indoors to have two separate areas; one that is used for the initial vegetative state and one that is used for flowering and fruiting. There is no other requirement other than to keep the dark cycle for flowering very dark with no light interruptions, as this can stall flowering by days or weeks.
Once a plant is big enough to mature (12" or over), dark periods are required for most plants to flower and bear fruit. This will require putting the lamp on a timer, to create regular and strict dark periods of uninterrupted light. In the greenhouse, the same effect can be created in the Summer (long days) by covering it with a blanket to make longer night periods. A strict schedule of covering the plants at 8pm and uncovering them at 8am for 2 weeks will start your plants to flowering. After the first 2 weeks, the schedule can be relaxed a little, but it will still be necessary to continue this routine for the plants to completely flower without reverting back to vegetative growth. Outdoors, Spring and Fall, the nights are sufficiently long to induce flowering at all times. Merely bring the plants from indoors to the outside at these times, and the plants will flower naturally. In late Summer, with Fall approaching, it may be necessary only to force flowering the first two weeks, then the rapidly lengthening nights will do the rest.

I start the flower day count when my plants show sex and begin to flower. Ever since i've changed to this method, my flowering times are much closer to the breeders recommended times.

Ta hell with all the plantology explainations....but you can start counting whenever you like :hump:

This is an issue of semantics. He asked WHEN the flowering period BEGAN....when he switched to 12/12 or after he saw flowers. I said "it has nothing to do with flowering DURATION". Just because a plant shows primordia (preflowers) doesn't mean its in full flower. I have a Mom that I get clones from and it has been growing a year without any major flowers....a few small "preflowers" maybe, but no colas. I also know when I get my beans from a Dutch seed bank and they say flowering period is between say 62 and 66 days I can almost set my clock by it. 65 Days after going to 12/12 I'll have perfect trichs...... BUT their offspring may have taken as much as 2 weeks to start showing flowers since I started with a 6" clone of that strain. If I waited an extra 2 weeks from the 65 day period most of the THC will have converted to couchlock quality.

cheers boneman.
agreed totally.
and yes count from when you want.its ready to harvest when its ready.
(all times for harvest will vary according to strain/environment/conditions and everyones own personall conditions/growarea/plant care/nutes etc etc).

Don't you want couchlock quality? shoudn't I be trying to produce the most potent bud I can? I like geting as high as I can most every time I smoke.

the plants/buds potentency(thc levels)are at maximum levels when the thricomes are milky/cloudy.
when they start to turn amber this is a sign of thc levels degrading and the thc breaks down into other chemicals.
Harvest timing is a matter of personal preference. When the glandular trichomes are clear with very little, if any coloration, THC levels are at their peak with CBD and CBN both at levels that will not overly influence the THC with their sedative effects. Some prefer more overwhelming narcotic type effects, allowing the resin glands to cloud and begin to amber or darken to increase overall cannabinoid content. The resin glands appear and therefore will mature at different times. A compromise is made when determining the desired overall maturity level to harvest. It depends on the growers preference in effect and palate.
