Time to Stake Or Cage Your Plants NOW!!!

Hello Friends

Been on MJ forums for about 9 years now. Every year about this time. I see threads on how the first wind storm of the year blew over whole plants or snapped branches. Just wanted to make a post to remind you guys to stake them or cage them soon. I seen half crops gone with the wind over and over and over. Even whole crops.

Anyway get out there. Do not be that guy this year. Losing a plant or that huge branch really sucks.

The first wind storms of the year are always the worse. Why? The plants are still green and have not got those woody flowering stems yet. So if you get a early wind storm it can do mass damage. Mix that with rain and some buds? Say goodbye

yea man, it's that time for sure. I just got done with the big 6, I used my old way with bamboo stakes and 1" slats as cross braces, and I then use tie ribbon to tie any loose branches to something so they can't break.
This horti-trellis stuff is the absolute best stuff to use though. I'm using that at my little 12 grow here at the house, and am about half way done. I got a few left to do. It rained on Sept. 19th at my old house last year, and I wasn't ready for it, and lost a shitload of big branches. For those of you that are new to outdoor growing, understand that rain will beat those buds right off the plant and right into the ground. It's a very sickening thing to see. Get busy and good luck!!
Nice reminder 5150!!

My plants have been hit with wind all summer..Goes with the territory where I live..and the wind generally lightens up Late August and September. That said, my girls are really bulking upand one of them has lower branches that are reaching out then curving up. I've put 18 inch garden fencing around the plant and they support the lower branches. They have some kind of coating that is really smooth and hopefully won't irritate the branches.

I would still stake or cage it. IMO.

This year I'm using remesh wire cages & horti trellis over that. Working well so far.

I got 6' bamboo stakes and am gonna put 5 around each plant and wrap them with 1/8" hemp twine ... I also bought some of this hydrofarm mesh trelace and will do the big guys with it.

For spaced individual plants, remesh cages are the bomb. Long bottom branches can be tied to the upper levels of wire.

Most years, I soak the plants several times a week to add weight while they're in veg. This strengthens the branches enough to withstand most wind problems. The greenhouses have no such problems.

As the buds fill in, I'll be adding supports to the heaviest branches. Some are already supported in the cage, protruding through the chain link.
