Time for transplant?

About a week and a half ago my sprout broke soil. It is about 3 1/2 inches long now, two real leaves grown in above the cotyldons (sp?) The plant is in an 8 oz. party cup. Would you say it's time to transplant? Thanks

I wait till the leaves are growing outside the edge of your cup. It's usually a good indicator when it's time to pot up.

The "More"....to a point, roots you have, I have found when I transplant, the better the plant will do when transplanted... Let it root good....
An I agree with these guys above...

Everyone has a different time they wait until but I personally transplant as soon as the plant grows two true leaves so yes, you can transplant if you'd like to. If the stems are a bit stretchy then I will transplant so that half of the stem that was out before is now underground. There will probably be a lot of people who disagree with this but is has always worked well for me. You really don't want to let the plant become rootbound by leaving it in a small container too long... If you do leave it in the container and the plants become rootbound be sure to break up the roots slightly before replanting like so:

I like that rule of thumb.

If you transplant too early without a decent root mass the whole soil ball can fall apart and do some damage to the roots.

Thanks guys. I'm asking because last time I transplanted when a plant was this size from a 8 oz party cup, the soil didn't stay together too well like the roots weren't bound good enough. I guess waiting longer is the way to go.
