Thrips

Just found a thrip on my haze bomb
the hydro store isnt open til monday and I kind of want to deal with it asap, I went to local gardening centre B&Q and got a pesticide that kills thrips, spider mites etc.
Im like 3 days into flowering, no bud is forming so I reckon its okay to use, but is a normal pesticide okay to use?
Just a bit confused as whether or not to spray under the leaf or on top?

Plan to do it in a couple of hrs when the lights are due to go off....

Any advice greatly appreciated.

thanks

As long as no buds are forming spray away.
Spray under the leaves too that is where they like to hang out.

As for the "normal pesticide" not 100% sure on that, brand? Whats in it?

I had to treat a few times over the years.
I in no way recommend what I have done but it works for me.
I use azamax its what I keep around just in case of spider mites.
For thrips its a bit overboard IMO but boy dose it work.

I spray the whole plant, do a soil drench with it.
Then place the plant where it will get enough air movement to dry pretty quick.

Yeah I have 4 couldnt see anything on the others, but Ive heard how fast they spread, I have something called 'provado' bug killer.
I have signs on a couple of the leaves that I have them, I just dont want them eating at the bud when it forms that'd be a kick in the balls!

I just looked it up. Provado is imidacloprid, one of the neonicotinoids recently implicated in colony collapse disorder (a plague, really) among honeybees. Spinosad is waay safer. Just my 2¢. cn

Ah man, I dont wanna wreck the grow think I should just wait til monday and go the hydro store?

You won't need the hydro store imo. Soap at once (I use safer but Ivory dish soap will do!) and your home/garden store should have spinosad. i found some at Orchard Supply, but that's a regional chain.

I just Googled B&Q. I'm in the States, so i can't give you any pointers. I'd go there (if the trip is convenient) and look or ask for spinosad. It's a natural product that's safer than most for home veg and such. cn

Ah thanks for that I'll go back tomorrow then and do an exchange :) I've covered the bottom of top of the soil around the plant with bin liners and taped it down, dont know if it'll help much, should I pick up some sand too and cover the top of the soil to prevent anymore infestation? Or is that a bit OTT?
Appreciate you looking that up for me, thanks :D

I think the sand won't help. Thrips are topsiders iirc.

A good schpritzing-down with dilute dish soap is your best, safest immediate control measure. DRENCH those undersides and hidden crannies! cn

With thrip you need to break the life cycle...that's it. I personally use a mild soap solution and give my girls a good mist, not drenched but a nice morning mist in veg only and only every second morning. If your girls are clean going into flower you will have no issues where it counts. I would not recommend spraying just before lights out, that can cause other issues. In your situation they are already in your flower so you want to get a little more aggressive. Doktor Doom has a few organic products that work well, same applies, every 2 days for a week to 10 days and you will have broken the cycle. I would not use it past the 5th week myself and only if it is out of hand. Wait till Tues. unless they have matured and you are seeing jumpers or flyers, if that's the case use a mild dose of your pesticide, just enough to knock the first wave on their asses and get to the hydro shop asap.

Yes it will work fine. You need to find a product that actually states if its for eatables not ornamental. I wouldn't use it unless you have real issues. The little army can be kept at bay with soap and water but will not kill them off, to do this its takes something stronger and that does not always work. Keep spraying every 2 days, this will either kill off the adults or the newborns but in either case you have interrupted the cycle and their numbers go way down. This time of year its all about control.

Thanks, i've had them all out and looked I cant find anything, the thrip I saw wasnt flying it kinda just stood there on paper and i took it out the tent straight away, just wana make sure I dont think im okay leave it then have a problem later on, they were fine going in from veg, i was spraying them every few days with canna cure.
