three wire pc fan?

I've hooked up all my pc fans but this one is throwing me off it has three wires black, white, and yellow. I've tried to hook it up to power but can't get it to run. can someone help please???

I think the yellow is the ground, when I hook up my fixtures there are 3 wires: black, white and bare copper (ground wire). I hook them via matching the colors of the wires with a stripped ext cord. the three pronged one... Or you might need to convert it form a/c to d/c however I don't know how to do this.
 
The yellow in an rpm control. Dont worry about hooking it up. I would say black is the power and white is the ground.
 
Yellow is for sensing fan speed. Some motherboards can use that wire to read how fast the fan is spinning. You can leave it disconnected.
 
This is exactly correct, hook up the red and the black. But make sure you arn't pushing too much power. If it's a 12v fan, don't use straight socket power. Get a phone charger and splice the ends, hook it up from that
