Thoughts on counterfeit/fake seeds

I bought Dutch Passion White Widow seeds from a seed bank in Spain. Long story short is I grew the seeds and none of the plants smelled very dank. The herbs suck.

People posting here said their Widow was dank and everything I was expecting but never received. That got me to thinking maybe I got fake seeds. How would I know? The packaging looked right but I don't know what OEM D seed packs "really" look like. Dutch Passion won't sell direct to the U.S. so anything is possible.

I've got some Gorilla Glue going right now and they smelled dank first day flowering. WTF?

Spain is supposedly the hub of mass produced seeds but there are more knowledgeable members on here who can tell you

It’s just genetics. Not every seed is a winner. You can grow 10 seeds all from the same pack and get totally different plants.

You make a point. I did plant all the seeds from the pack, like 10.... some of the plants smelled like apricots.... others grapefruit. Some no smell.

I can't believe the smell of these Gorilla Glues. Maybe I finally hit a good pheno.

I always heard people say black widow from Mr. Nice was the best seed version of the original WW.

I recently got a supposed cut of the old school Big Island white widow but havent flowered it out yet to confirm. It makes some of the best bubble hash ever but there is zero fruitiness to it. It smells very earthy/musky almost like fresh moss and the taste is very hashy with tons of frost and stickiness.
