Hello all! I was wanting to know what your thoughts were on this simple lighting setup that i purchased today. I will be growing in soil/organic. It consits of (1) 4" Yeild Master by Sun System (400watts) (1) 400 watt Hortilux Super HPS grow lamp (1) Sun System remote ballast.
Constructive criticism and tips are welcomed!!!

Supposedly dude gave me 10% off each item so:

Yield master reflector $89.06

400 watt HPS $83.66

400 watt remote ballast $134.96

so a total of $307.86

Was wondering if you knew or anyone else, if this bulb will get me thru all the stages of this plant? for now?

Damn! Good prices, thanx for the share. Will keep them in mind when adding to my setup! Does anyone know if i that bulb is good for all stages or will i have to buy another one?

i actually just bought that same system from my local hydro shop for about that same price too. made a huge difference and i didn't start using it till 5 weeks through my flowering.

its fine for all stages of growth..but MH is key for vegg! i just bought a 600 watt digital system, fires hps and mh paid 350$ High Tech Garden Supply

I was looking into one of those it was about $250 at the local shop. Keep in mind that the $250 is for the 400 watt version! But since im just starting off i thought id get something simple. Looks very interesting for the future though !!!!!

I had a question for you guys and was wondering if you could help me out? Obviously i just purchased this light setup, but was wondering if it is possible to start the plant off with source of light coming from both the sun and my 400 watt HPS?? The reason i ask this is: 1. Have read that the lack of blue spectrum light in HPS bulbs can make a plant stretch during the vegetative growth stage. 2.Wouldnt mind saving some $$$$$$ on electric bill! Oh yea, dont live with my parents so stealth is of not of any concern YET! I will putting the plant back on the HPS light at night.I would gladly appreciate your guys' knowledge! Thnx!

u can use hps to veg..the only down fall is the heat! u can't get the light to close to the plant or it will burn it!..if u want to save $ just go out and buy a few cfls and use those for like2-3 weeks then kick on that hps once the plants can handle it!..what im pretty much saying is hps lights aren't the best for seedlings, reason being u can't get the light to lcose and it will strech!..hope this helps!

Yes i experienced the heat issue as you stated, i had the seedlings about 3 to 4 inches away, and found out fast just how hot it can get. The soil dried out in about an hour or so. And i dont know if im impatient or what, but it seems as if the seedling is taking longer to grow then what ive experienced with some earlier outdoor grows. So then personally, to get the plant going, you would go with cfl's instead of the good ol sun?? Thnx for the help man!
