This Is Why Organized Religion Should Be Banned

Wow, this is horrific and the fact that it been covered up over a period of 70 years is absolutely crazy. This evidently shows the power that these religious figures have over people that subscribe to that faith and the abuse of their positions of power.I find it completely outrageous also that once they have abused thousands of people that went to the hospital over the years, there is still a need for sexual abuse of fellow members of the church ,that are most likely equally complicit in the sexual abuse of the hospital victims. This also reflects so negatively on the image they present towards the wider public due to the church not even attempting to take any form of responsibility of their higher ranking officials, but instead underlines that sexual abuse is encouraged by the church ,due to those same high ranking church official being promoted to higher positions of power. These religious organization definitely need a firmer hand with the law.

1000 children..can you imagine sending your kid to parochial school (which is expensive) and having this confirmed years later..you paid to have your kid sexually assaulted.

i kill myself..but first i'd hunt down the priest.

if you want to pray- stay home and do it there.

I despise organized religion, but I don't think the answer to this problem is banning it. Social media just banned Alex Jones and InfoWars and he gained in popularity. I think the answer to bad speech, like the church produces, is good speech, objective, fact based speech. When you ban or censor something, it legitimizes some people's preconceived beliefs and that results in entrenchment in something that is objectively wrong. When you let someone openly see both sides of an issue and let them decide for themselves, most of the time they side with what's actually true. It's when you start judging one group over the other and someones identity is challenged that the actual issue becomes tainted and tribalized.

and if a few families of murdered children have to move 7 times and can't even visit their own kid's grave, that's just how it has to be

Your proposed solution, like usual, failed; it increased Jones' popularity

It increased the number of potential harassment of victims of Sandy Hook

If you took a moment to step off your high horse, you might see that

You don't care about the victims of Sandy Hook, you only care about being perceived as right. You are politicizing them in the exact same way Alex Jones and InfoWars did, while at the exact same time criticizing them for doing it

what a load of horseshit

i'm very glad that he is off of most major platforms, and less able to indoctrinate a generation of youtube dupes like you

with time his impact and audience will shrink and fade away

i think we should criminalize speech like his

Why? Alex Jones' rhetoric is easy to debunk with objective facts

You don't get rid of him by censoring or criminalizing his speech, you only embolden his followers and make him a martyr, and he becomes more popular as a result

because of the harm it causes

Censoring him increased the harm he causes. It didn't reduce it, like you seem to believe

The solution you support likely harmed more Sandy Hook victims

So how does supporting a solution that objectively harms more of the people you purport to want to protect add up in that equation?

yes you do

go to germany and do some holocaust denial. see what happens
Go to America under Republican control, see what happens when you support abortion rights, or LGBT rights, etc. You support leaving the legality of issues up to the government in power at the time. So you censor things you find offensive now. Set's precedent for Republicans, or the political establishment under the guise of legitimate censorship, to censor things they find offensive later. You're short sighted and can't see the bigger picture. If you support shit like this now, it will inevitably bite you in the ass later. It's not about supporting organized religion or not. It's about supporting the principle of the freedom of speech.

you can't shout fire in a crowded theater, kid

speech that causes harm needs to be criminalized

Alex Jones' rhetoric sent death threats and goon squads to menace people because they said something he disagreed with. Sandy Hook parents are only one example.

Alex Jones is but one example of perpetrators who use social media to harm or threaten people. Trump is famous for doing the same thing. There are others. If you really want to protect free speech, you'd be glad Alex Jones is shut down.

Also shut down legally with precedents that can be used to stop his kind from using social media to menace people. There are precedents in hard copy media and TV that could be used.

Let's break this down:

("Censoring Jones" = "emboldens his followers.") AND ("Censoring Jones" = "you make him a martyr") are assumed to be true

Therefore

"Alex Jones becomes more popular"

That's quite the leap of faith. Your post is not very convincing.

i agree with the above but churches receive their 501(c)(3) as a gift from the government therefore the government is subsidizing child rape. i'm not saying to BAN religion just the organized portion where you get bank rolled to be a pedophile.

they can keep being pedos if they want, but they need to pay full boat..no tax breaks.

take a look at the billions they save every year..it's legalized pedo + we're paying them to do it.

i vote them off Tax Break Island until they can prove they're not doing that shit..revoke Catholic Church tax exempt status!

everyone knows you can pray anywhere..though it's a weak mind that needs to ask an invisible man in the sky, whose father is him and son is him, for help with your poor life choices.

as for jones? it's hate speech..normal people don't listen to that shit- it's not them i'm concerned about it's those who believe and act on it..did you see that kid start following asking about Sanders vacay home? i've seen other pundits post the same vid and they cut off the part about Sandy Hook..why? Minority Report is one..why?
