thinking of making the switch

hello cfl growers. i currently grow under a 400w mh and am considering switching over to complete cfl. i already have 2 85w (2700k) cfls and a 40w for side lighting. i plan to move the grow into the attic and it will be getting hot up there without a light going. i plan to use about 400w of cfls in a 3x3 area. anyone here switch to cfl from mh/hps? what did you think?

come on now LB, why so harsh? if it ends up being that bad, i still have the 400w mh, or a 250. if i switch over to cfls im not gonna try to use a couple of little 23watters, i'm gonna use a bunch of larger ones (85-150w).

if thats what youve gotta do,then fine,ive never grown with cfls before but with the amount your guna use,if you position um in the right places youll still be able to get some good weight and smoke,,,,,,,so go for it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,peace

so no one has went from hps to cfls? maybe i should take that as a sign to stick with my mh, or maybe as a challenge to grow better buds with cfls than i have with the mh? who knows? let me know what you think

Check my thread that I'm about to make, brand new CFL thread on week 7, I have some insight on the subject.

Based on all the CFLs I have ever gotten, I think 23 watt daylight CFLs are the best. They are the brighest for their bite, and all the higher wattage CFLs I've gotten are yellow-tinted and seem less bright than the 23 watt ones. Anyone else notice this? I have 'warm' (slight yellow tinted) 26 watt (100 watt equivalent), 30 watt (125 watt equivalent), and 40 watt (200 watt equivalent) CFLs.

I noticed several things:

- The 40 watt doesn't appear to even be as bright as the daylight CFL... it just has more coils in the spiral and takes up more space.

- The 26 and 30 watt are indestinguishible unless you look up close at their labels.

- The 23 watt "Daylight" CFL appears to be the brightest... and it uses the least amount of energy.

- There is a 13 watt "Daylight" CFL and it, too, seems brighter than the 'warm' larger watted CFLs such as the 26 and 30 watt.
