Therion's Ghetto GrowBox

Since it's all the fad and I'm still super excited, I've decided to be one of the cool guys and start my own journal. I'm a little late, but not TOO late.

So lets get down to the basics.

- Plywood box
- Bubbleponic reservoir & grow system (StealthHydro. Knockoff)
- CFL lighting
- No namebrand nutes, using stuff from my local nursery that a local grower recommended to me. For veg I'll be using a 20-20-20 mix
- Plants were started by seed germination and are a mix. 2 of my plants are Purple Kush (which the local grower was nice enough to supply me a few seeds for free), the other plants are random shwag seeds I had sitting around.

Today is about day 6-7 in the grow and I have 5 seedlings about 3-4 inches tall. Pictures will be uploaded very soon!

Hopefully I'll remember to keep this baby updated while I follow along with Green and Longhorn with their grows.

Walked off today and forgot to lower my lights after doing maintenance in the box. 2 of the little tikes fell over, luckily I got home in time. Lowered the lights back down and in 3-4 hours they were bouncing back up.

- Bought FoxFarm nutes today. Big Bloom & Grow Big (Had to try them since I see the reviews. Will see what works better, local nursery stuff of the FF)
- Bought a digital lighting timer. Can set a full week of time in it. Pretty sweet.
- Found a better way to arrange my lights (which I'll explain)
- Had 2 more seedlings pop up out of their rockwool
- Total of 6 plants

The lighting I am using a power strip. I bought the plug adapters and then 2-way splitters. On my larger CFL bulbs, the split runs horizontal to the plug, for the smaller bulb split in the center, the split runs parallel. So basically it's like having 3 bulbs in the place of 2. That helped a lot.
Unfortunately I have no reflector right now, so I'm losing some lumens, but I'll be working on that as soon as I can come up with a better idea. It's not a Ghetto GrowBox for nothin'. I'm cheap, redneck, and have to do everything the hard way.

- Pictures coming next post.

Here's the newest edition to the box. Only one I felt comfortable pulling out. Trying not to disturb the bigger plants. This guy came up about this time yesterday.

Plants are looking good today. Topped the reservoir off, checked my PH and all of the normal stuff. Everything's good for the day so I'm pretty much done.
The only real anything I did was made reflectors for my CFLs out of coke cans. I was skeptical at first, but WOW, improved my lighting quite a bit.

My new goal is to devise a plan to get more lights in there.

More updates tomorrow... pictures coming as soon as I can get me a usb cable for my other camera. For now, stuck using the webcam.

Well I had to go out of town for almost 2 days and when I got back, the worst had happened.... one of my ties holding my lighting up dropped loose. The lights burned my big plant up real bad. I have her isolated in another room right now trying to med her up. Two other smaller seedlings were crushed and didn't make it. Bummer, but shit happens.

BUT! Germination happens and I'm trying again. 3 of the bigger seedlings are still here and are truckin right along.

I got an extension for my webcam cable today, my buddy was nice enough to let me borrow it. So we get pictures, crappy webcam picture, BUT THEY ARE PICTURES!!! AHAHAH!!

Ther,

Make sure that all the holes in your tubs are covered so no light gets to the root system inside the tubs.

I lost a bunch of my plants... it sucks, but I do have 1 survivor, who is flourishing like a football player on steroids. I'll get a picture of it today or tomorrow.. the stupid thing is like 10 inches tall and refuses to die. I've nute-burned it once, under-nuted it several times, didn't have enough water another time... no oxygen on the roots another. This puppy is a survivor and is talking in weed language to me ..

I was going to start an entire new grow, but this plan is showing some incredible characteristics... If it's a female I may try to make a mommy out of it.
