An interesting thing occurred today, in that the US Senate voted unanimously to allow lawsuits filed by family members of the victims of the attack on 9/11, to sue Saudi Arabia for complicity in those attacks and to be compensated. The Senate's vote, along with the vote of the vast majority in the House of Representatives guaranteed an override of the Obama veto, This will be the 1st time during Obama's term that a veto is guaranteed to fail. So, this is my question. Is this a bad idea or a good one to allow to a lawsuit be allowed against a foreign nation over the actions of it's citizens?. Personally, I think we are opening a Pandora's box, in that every country that we fucked over time, can sue the US. Those countries will probably say if the US can sue other countries, then we who have had the shit bombed out us or had the US try to overthrow our government can do the same. I can think of a few that will just love to be able to do that in international courts, and a few that come to mind are Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Nicaragua, Lebanon, Grenada, Iraq, Iran and the list goes on and on (any others come to mind?)
So, bad idea or not?.
