THOUSAND OAKS (CBSLA) — A Marine was identified as the shooter who killed 12 people, including a Ventura County sheriff’s sergeant, at a Thousand Oaks bar before apparently killing himself.

Ian David Long, 28, had several contacts with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department over the years, ranging from minor incidents like traffic citations and collisions, to being a victim of battery at a local bar in January of 2015, Sheriff Geoff Dean said.

The bar where Long was battered was not the Borderline Bar & Grill, where authorities say he gunned down patrons attending a “college country night” before apparently shooting himself.

The shooting, reported at about 11:20 p.m., left 12 dead, including Ventura County sheriff’s Sgt. Ron Helus, a 29-year veteran of the department.

More recently, sheriff’s deputies made contact with Long in April of this year, when they were called to his home on a report of “subject disturbing.”

“He was irate, acting a little irrationally,” Dean said, so deputies who responded to the incident called out the department’s crisis intervention team, who met with him and cleared him.

“They didn’t feel he was qualified he needed to be taken under 5150,” Dean said, referring to a mental health hold.

Dean confirmed Long was a veteran of the Marine Corps and may have been suffering from PTSD.

The gun used in Wednesday’s shooting was purchased legally and identified as a Glock 21 45-caliber handgun that had an extended magazine. Dean said the weapon is still being processed and it’s not clear how many rounds were on it.

Actually, he killed one more single-handedly than the August weekend you mentioned. So, if we pretend it took him all weekend to kill them and factor in the population, this white, gun-toting asshole is 2.71 million times more deadly than an average Chicagoan. But it only took him about ten minutes, so it is more like 500 million times more deadly.

This from somebody who continuously talks of Democrats as if they are the reason for Trump.

"Disappointing" that your unfounded opinion was not met on election day? Democrats kicked ass on Tuesday. Instead of savoring the progress made by true progressives, Cult of Sanders dwells upon mass murder and a few losses by extreme left candidates in conservative districts. Your disappointment is on you for not seeing what we accomplished.

Oh and what am I to be "held responsible" for? Oregon elected a Democratic Governor, elected a super majority of Democrats in both the State Senate and House, and defeated bills that would have rolled back women's reproductive rights, forced city law enforcement to work closely with ICE and defeated a bill that would have extended Trump's federal tax breaks to the wealthy into Oregon's income taxes. DeFazio, the incumbent Democrat who represents my district in the House won by a landslide too. Nationwide, Democrats took back a great number of Governor's seats and took control of the House of Representatives. I guess I'll just have to take my lumps for that.

Oh, and Gillum and Abrams came so close to winning governor's races that both Georgia and Florida are going to have to go through recounts. Win or lose, this is a big reversal for Republicans and I think the odds are pretty good for them to win after elections officials dive into the nitty gritty of voter fraud those states are so famous for.

Not disappointed. Not one bit.

The Thousand oaks massacre is completely separate in its causes from Chicago as well as what you laughably conflate to -- Islamic terrorists.

That said, Chicago and the Thousand Oaks massacre have one thing in common. Irrational gun control laws.
