Delux,
Of course I cant suggest you put a doctor on the line for your cannabis wants, that would simply be wrong pal, but so too is the criminal aspect of cannabis law to begin with. I suggest you become committed to your favorite hobby and pass time by making an effort to help get things changed. There is something that each and everyone of us can do to help and there is strength in numbers. Here is where we can network and get things rolling. I also would suggest you become a caregiver. There are folks who need good growers to help them. There are increasing numbers of people who simply have no knowledge on growing cannabis and need medication, not an education in botany. The numbers of people are only going to increase and during that time, you can be getting yours while helping someone else; Legally smoking under an ounce in your home as an Alaskan resident, potected under Ravin Vs State of Alaska (case law), the same as we the sick are allowed.

from what i have read you can also have up to 25 plants in your home

Possession of less than 25 plants is protected under the Alaska Constitution’s right to privacy (See Ravin v. Alaska).

thats off norml.org am i to take this to mean if i have 24 plants in my house (or more realisticly for me 4-8) that im protected by the alaska constitution?

Top Anti-Drug Researcher Changes His Mind, Says Legalize Marijuana

For 30 years, Donald Tashkin has studied the effects of marijuana on lung function. His work has been funded by the vehemently anti-marijuana National Institute on Drug Abuse, which has long sought to demonstrate that marijuana causes lung cancer. After 3 decades of anti-drug research, here's what Tashkin has to say about marijuana laws:
"Early on, when our research appeared as if there would be a negative impact on lung health, I was opposed to legalization because I thought it would lead to increased use and that would lead to increased health effects," Tashkin says. "But at this point, I'd be in favor of legalization. I wouldn't encourage anybody to smoke any substances. But I don't think it should be stigmatized as an illegal substance. Tobacco smoking causes far more harm. And in terms of an intoxicant, alcohol causes far more harm." [McClatchy]
We've been told a thousand times that marijuana destroys your lungs, that it's 5 times worse than cigarettes, and on and on. Yet here is Donald Tashkin, literally the top expert in the world when it comes to marijuana and lung health, telling us it's time to legalize marijuana. His views are shaped not by ideology, but rather by the 30 years he spent studying the issue. He didn't expect the science to come out in favor of marijuana, but that's what happened and he's willing to admit it.

Here's the study that really turned things around:
UCLA's Tashkin studied heavy marijuana smokers to determine whether the use led to increased risk of lung cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD. He hypothesized that there would be a definitive link between cancer and marijuana smoking, but the results proved otherwise.
"What we found instead was no association and even a suggestion of some protective effect," says Tashkin, whose research was the largest case-control study ever conducted.
Prejudice against marijuana and smoking in general runs so deep for many people that it just seems inconceivable that marijuana could actually reduce the risk of lung cancer. But that's what the data shows and it not only demolishes a major tenet of popular anti-pot propaganda, but also points towards a potentially groundbreaking opportunity to develop cancer cures through marijuana research.

Over and over again, all the bad things we've been told about marijuana are revealed to be not only false, but often the precise opposite of the truth. So the next time someone tells you that marijuana is worse for your lungs than cigarettes, you might want to mention that the world's leading expert on that subject happens to be a supporter of legalization.

Delux, the laws have changed since that was in place. Our current status is EVERYONE is limited to an ounce. There is no mention of plant numbers. Never the less, GRAY laws rarely protect you.

I will be traveling the state next week. I hope to get the ball rolling on a few things and talk with folks in Anchorage about a proposed med cannabis event. I would also like to see the organization of a "Smoke Out" some time this year to help raise awareness of Alaska's medical marijuana laws and the changes needed, and hope to get this idea out on the table. If anyone here would like to help by joining us, post before May 18th. Ill contact you ASAP.

love to be part of the show, but like a lot of smokers, the oportunities for legal and social back blow are really seriously problematic. That said, I'd be glad to help anonymously.

Thanks for the interest, I was able to meet with some folks and learn some new things. This last week I visited several book stores, garden suppliers, and "head shops". I spoke with some students at the University of Alaska, and U. of A. Fairbanks. We discussed some projects and proposed events. It was success.

I do agree with you quiet gardener; there are allot of people in fear of "back blow". It’s a serious issue that has kept people like your self quite for along time. What we hope to do is educate the public of Alaska. We feel that the lack of knowledge, resources, and the fear of the unknown, has created the situation that we are trying to help break free of. People don’t trust our government. They don’t trust the current standing with cannabis in Alaska understandably; and like your self fear the social blow of being honest.

If you are in fear of what exposure might do, I ask that you consider truly how you might feel when it’s legal. Might you understand how the social blow is changed and reverted once the public knows the truth about cannabis as you obviously do. Please understand we don’t look at people who drank alcohol prior to prohibition as criminal now only due to the legality and truth about problems with prohibition. We may look at the freedom fighters of prohibition days as a different breed, but it’s simple. As we have learned about alcohol we have leaned the inevitable (it’s harmful) and that leaves people with mixed feelings. The fact is however, choice is something that you cannot take away easily for long, without the "back blow" from both sides of the issue becoming the “issue” itself. Cannabis thankfully is far different. We may in fact find negative side effects associated with use and method of use however, we too will find the real truth. It’s not the truth that keeps you feeling the need to be the quiet gardener, am I wrong?

If you like what you do with cannabis for any reason, if you understand why your not wrong for doing so (and even if you don’t), and you don’t like the idea of social backlash as a result of people knowing the REAL you, consider the idea that your social standing has made you more than a "criminal" but also a liar. That’s part of what’s wrong with the picture. You shouldn’t have to hide it buddy...but I do understand.

I am a far different person/situation than most. I can be the front man. I have no backlash to fear. I am free.

Most everyone feels somewhat like you quietgardener, and thus keep things anonymous. I just want to get my feeling out there, that its more moving to see those faces and people you know standing up for something, than the numbers of how many agree. When a face shows up like Emery, Ravin, Chong, Marley, etc. we seem to have an easier time standing up behind them. When we see a family member, we sometimes jump to back them regardless of reason and simply due to trust. Who would see your face and be moved to stand? Who would you be helping?

Not at all my friend. I apologize for not being able to get back with you. Things changed and I was only able to meet with a few folks who I had already planned to meet with prior. As I spoke with you about, I do plan to continue to network here and hope that you all continue to do the same. I cannot be the only one leading the way, take what charge you can and do what needs to be done. Include ALL your friends!

Like alot of people i'm gonna do what i'm gonna do anyways, and pushin the envelope and protesting would only give "the man" another reason to fuck with me. I think collecting signatures at the alaska fair would be a good place to start. i would be willing to do it but then i would want to give them to someone else to do whatever with them. if something gets organized let me know and i'll surely help throw it down for the cause, and if the ball gets rollin even half ass i could "come out of the grow closet" if ya know what i mean.

A booth would be great but do you think having people wondering around with shirts or something that were bright colors stating what we were doing would get more sigs or people maning a booth? Id love to try and get something going the sooner we came up with a plan the easier it would be for some of us to try and get off work ;)

BOTH.

Walking the petition around for collection of signatures is a great idea! Shirts pins hand me outs, the whole nine! Anything you can think of! We also need a booth to base from however. A collective of information, facts, and registration information for reform groups such as NORML and others that may help us.

You should start at furendevous, no where is there a bigger gathering of stoners except maybe the Girdwood Forest Fair or Iron Man Competiton.
