The next big step: Transplanting & Mh Lights

Hello all.

First, some quick history. This is my first grow. This Monday, the plants will be 3 weeks old. Currently, there are 5 of them. They have been kept under 4 28 watt CFLs in a closet. We have been using a fan to encourage them to grow thicker, and to keep away bugs. We water them on a regular schedule, and I have only added nutrients (basic miracle grow) to the water once.

This weekend, we are re potting them, and moving them under a 400 watt Mh light. Naturally, this being my first time, I have a few questions.

1.) What is a good recommendation for soil or soil mix? Should I run with straight soils (I'm open for recommendations) or should I mix the soil with anything in particular?

2.) A few of the plants are yellowing on the tips and outer margins, starting with the older leaves. They continue to grow, but I would like to prevent this from spreading, especially to the healthier plants. The margins of the leaves have yellowed, then turned brown as it spreads inward on the leaves. Any ideas on what that could be?

I plan on turning this thread into a grow journal. I will get some pics up as soona s my camera decides to start working with my computer.

Thanks in advance guys. :peace:

I'm trying out some Happy Frog by Fox Farms and it seems to be the cat's meow. It's organic, smells very rich and earthy (duh!), has the perlite and pretty much everything you need or want for growing pot. I added some bone meal and blood meal and some dolomitic lime to mine too but it probably didn't really *need* all that. Welcome to Rollitup; looking forward to seeing your new babies.

There was one thing I forgot to ask. Is a 400 watt mh with a reflector going to be enough for 5 plants? We don't plan on growing them more than a few tall.
