You will be dealing with caustic flammable substances, prepare accordingly.

In your container mix 1/2 lb of finely powdered MHRB with 1/2 lb of lye. Add only enough water to dissolve the mixture into a thick slurry. Add a cup of naptha.

Next, using a plastic spoon, or if you're brave a drill with plastic stirring bit and stir the fuck out of the mixture. The reaction will generate much heat. Continue stirring until the solution cools.

Heat the mixture in a double boiler and get temp back up to around 120F. Suck off napth layer with syringe, evap concentrate and freeze precip.

Repeat the process using a double boiler to provide heat.


Turns out you don't need lots of water for an extraction and heat does wonders. If you're using SS MHRB expect 2.25 grams from 1/2 lb the first pull.

An open flame when lye and naphtha is involved is just asking for trouble. A water bath is much more practical.

This tek screams awful to me. First of all a half pound of NaOH is unnecessary and wasteful. Second you never use plastic anything. Stainless steel and glass only.. or milk jugs if your ghetto.

I don't recall ever mentioning an open flame, only that shit was flammable and caustic. Water bath, double boiler same thing, no direct heating of the mixture. Anyway for the first pull the chemical reaction will provide all the heat you need.

The mixture separates out easily so you can use a syringe to pull off most of the top layer without getting any crap in it. For the very last pull I use a separation funnel to get any remaining naptha. If you suck a bit of the red shit into they syringe it will settle on the bottom and you can squirt it out. You will probably have to add water to get the sludge through a sep funnel. Make it Distilled water by the way. Tap water seems to fuck stuff up.

I guess since people still do stupid shit like blow out their windows making BHO I have to state use a fucking hot plate not a gas stove.

Also note that if you are using finely powdered MHRB doing a A/B is just a waste of time, STB works fine.

As far as the 1:1 ratio of NaOH, that is recommended by at least half of the STB teks at Nexus.

Stainless steel is a big no-no. I've seen holes get eaten in pots labled stainless steel. Soft plastics are a no-no. Stirring with a hard plastic spoon which isn't etched by solvents, not a problem if you don't happen to have a glass spoon. Milk jugs are about the worst possible plastic you can use.

And finally, anyone who's not getting 6g per pound of MHRB needs to STFU and listen.
