Personal Pity Bump

Q: Do you really want to know your heritage?

Q: If you go to jail do you lose your Social Security?

It's actually a better topic for a therad than nearly anything I have seen her post. The execution left something to be desired. The title is just awful.

I imagine this LEO technique is going to get a lot more use and it is kind of frightening. Their is potential for some real mischief here though.

It just goes to show - if you don't want a distant relative who you don't know and have never met caught for a heinous crime, don't post your DNA publicly.

At first they got the wrong guy through DNA as he was part of the close genetic pool. He was in the hospital, they swabbed him and realized it was the other near match.

So popo sat curbside waiting for his garbage. Then they made the false profile.

Match.

This guy didn’t have any prints or dna on file with local state or feds..

What movie does this most resemble?

I figured this was basic common sense but I guess not lol
yeah, but people do it. Mormons for example, who own nearly all the genetic testing companies and run most of the websites, believe that it is incumbent upon them to identify prior generations of their lineage in order to baptize them into the Mormon faith. They have led the world in the creation of genetics databases since the technology developed. Now their data has become a very powerful tool for finding unidentified criminals.

Other people upload their data to find out more about their own heritage, or to "prove" that they are not anti-Semetic.

I'm sure this has been going on for awhile. As soon as those sites got popular I'm sure cops were all over it to try to close old cases. I'd never willingly give up my DNA willingly. But since I grew some pots I'm a felon now. So I got mouth fucked with a swab for my DNA. So my opinion is kinda useless lol

Yeah, but the point is that a distant relative of yours could upload their info and then LEO could trace it to you using the voluminous Mormon databases.

I thought they made the false profile to send in with the crime scene dna. That got them onto a distant relative, and they did the grunt work from there. It was only after following him they got {maybe discarded chewing gum or a cig butt} a sample that was a match to the sample on file.

They did. They actually went after the wrong guy first then hit the next match

That seems to be the case.

Glad the fucker got nailed, he is a monster. But the technique is a little creepy. I think it will survive any legal challenges though. My concern is what happens when this sort of thing gets turned on people who are not rapists or murderers. I am sure Putin can find some uses for it.

For example, lets say the KGB finds a discarded bag of trim and human hair and want to find out who it belonged to.

Yep, glad he got popped.

A little worried about my shit being out there. I took both the 23&me and Anc.com tests, and have my real name on both. The wife is into that sort of thing big time. We are having a newly found cousin of the wife's as a house guest this weekend. He turned up as a cousin when she posted her dna. {a who's your daddy case. She helped him solve that puzzle}

If she's a good cook I might be a long lost cousin too that wants to reunite for the weekend.

On the other hand, let's say a brutal murder is committed with a cum sock but the perp has never been arrested or had his DNA gathered because he lives in his Mom's basement and seldom leaves the house...
