The cheapest par/$ lights

The Tasty T4-V725 is currently $4.32 per par watt. 190 LPW at full power. Two of them would be a 600w setup for $1340USD.

I've calculated the LER for the 3000/80 SPD at 332, QER is 4.67. 190 LPW according to the Bridgelux product sim at 50C so 57% efficient, comes out to 725 PPF for the T4.

Amares got good sales, & is enhanced white or Timber depending on what you like would be my suggestion.

Basically, if you order a light such as Timber, NGL etc in the USA for $700usd it means this:

$700usd to Cdn = $950cdn.
Once it hits the border you get charged tax. Add at least 7% or basically $70cdn = $1020
Add shipping ($100-$200usd) = $1170 minimum
Add duty or 7% (estimate) = $1240.
That is a low estimate and doesn't include any other fee's shippers or the border adds on.

So this puts you in the category of ordering a 400w Vero setup from Timber for $579 which would leave you change.
Or spend a couple more hundred and get a 600w Vero from Timber for about $950usd but this would push you up to the $1500cdn mark (ish).

Where do you live? Maybe you're close enough I could help build one for you. BCblondes makes cob lights but they are basically out of stock. They do have 2 x 225w lights on their website which uses good Cree cobs. Maybe talk to them and they can build you a light in your price range. I think they are based out of BC.

I'm in BC. I ordered the passive SST120 heatsinks from NGL. Cobs from digikey and drivers from meanwell (both canadian versions of the websites). Then I just got square aluminum channel and hacked it up, screwed it together and formed my frame. Then added the cobs onto the heatsinks and threw it all on the frame. Wired it up and it was good to go.

Not alot of options in Canada yet for cob lights but BCblondes in the only one I know of.

I just watched growmau5's rapid LED video. Maybe I should build my own light - The only supplier of parts I know in Canada is Mouser.ca, and I'm overwhelmed by the number of products in their catalog.

I kinda don't want to admit it because I think people will think I'm goofy, but I'm trying to outfit my 2'x4' multi level shelving for greens and microgreens.
I've been thinking of purchasing commercial lights, but they are around 400$ CDN per level. ouch.
I have no issue building, other than actually picking and purchasing the equipment. I'm worried I'll end up with garbage leds.

Well then there's no need for powerful cobs. The quantum boards sound like a good option. Quantum boards are super easy to put together and would work great with 2 boards covering a 2'x4' space per shelf.
Perhaps @robincnn could help you with the best options for greens/microgreens since I do believe he's done a fair bit of that himself.

yeah what he ^ said.

For stacked horizontal high density grow like microgreens, you could even use 2' or 4' Tube LED grow lights, get them close and at way lower wattage than cannabis requires.

This is exactly the plan, I will I guess try to find top bin DR/b stars and see how much it costs to build one level of lights as a test.
