The Card holder and caregiver relationship

Being new to this whole Medical Marijuana thing here in Mass I am trying to understand the benefits of being a card holder and caregiver. I understand being a card holder (once the DPH issues them) being able to have access to MJ "legally" but from what I have seen the prices are steep at the other states dispenseries so someoene may be able to get a better deal from their street supplier.

As far as being a caregiver, is it just the opportunity to make some extra cash to cover expenses etc?

I certainly hope not, the extra cash thing I mean. I would like to be a caregiver for someone. All I would be looking for is a share of some of the expense involved in growing. I would love to be able to work with someone to discover what strains would work best for their specific ailment or would RSO or other extract work, yadda yadda. Plus the ability to grow more at one time and expand a bit so I could further my breeding and growing ambitions. Oh well that's my dream anyway.
