The AeroGarden:A good way to get into hydroponics or a waste of money?

So i was thinking of buying one of those aero gardens that u see on TV.And now im starting to see alot more posts with growers using these things. But at the same time i have herd alot of bad things about this product.Mainly being its size restrictions, and not being able to support full grown plants. Is this even true?

Over all i havnt really come to a conclusion on weather to buy one or not.

So if anyone has any sucsess with one of these "AG's" lemme know and post it up.

So is this a waste of money or not?

I don't care what anyone says i LOVE my aerogarden:) i've never grown using an aeroponic or hydro system until the aerogarden. i just harvested some lowryder bud and left the rest to seed. i used ag nutes all the way through and needed no modifications though at the end i did hang my light a little higher but i didn't have to cut the cord or get another one:) the aerogarden fuckin rocks:) Peace

Waste of money man ...waste of money. Kronic is doing it the best way....with lowryder. But you can make one for less. Find Filthy Fletch's thread about the 30 min aero build. How much are they charging for the aerogarden these days? Btw...nice avatar!

Really? So its prolly better if i make my own DWC?I have seen all the threads them, and i could easily make one(my res already has a pump and airstone so it could be made into a DWC simply)

Aero gardens presently are around $150 CAN for the base model.

But isnt there advantages of having the aerogarden still?:?Doesnt it control nutes and PPM by computer kinda or sumtin'?

I dont exactly remember all the things that are automated into this machine, but isnt there some extra things that it does?Or some other advantages to purchasing this over making a DWC ur self?

All I can think of are disadvantages with the aerogarden....but for some reason every other post in the dam hydro forum is aero garden this or aero garden that. Too small of a res., insufficient lighting, not enough vertical room, not enough horizontal room...they are really best for herbs and small things. I'm sure you could do clones in the AG ok if you don't use all the spots. But since you've got most of the stuff allready...then I'd say build your own. As far as automation goes...I don't know that much about them, and I have never heard that they are automated in any way...but I don't read aero garden threads, so I could be mistaken. Besides hydro isn't that hard, I have my stuff setup where I only check PH and PPM a few of times a week.

I didn't get much because i only took a few buds and left the rest for seeds. this grow was all about getting seeds so i wouldn't have to buy more lowryder seeds:) peace

the pump runs depending on the setting. mine runs 18 hours when the lights off the pumps off. i use the basil and herb setting.

Well whenever given a chance I try to steer people away from the AG, but every time some AG user starts flaming me for it. I still stand strong on my opinion that as shenagen said, it's not enough to grow weed. You got to take into account this little "thing" is meant for growing small herbs and such, not weed. Think about how much care a person takes when growing weed as opposed to growing tomatoes or basil. There's usually much more attention to detail and work put in if you want a decent yield and some actual good weed. The AG is made to be a no work wannabe hydro setup for small herbs so old white women can think they're trendy and smart while this little machine makes them some mediocre herbs. Anyways, it's not good.

my "friend" has this setup but he says its way better on the setting for tomatoes. im a noob too so when mine gets here ill let you guys know. as far as the automation it is and isnt the ag does not have any sort of automation but the ag pro 100 and 200 both have a microprocessor which controls nutrients and water pretty much everything.

for vegging the tomatoes setting is best.... Its 18 on 6 off.. when ready to flower hook the light to a timer set for 12 hrs on and 12 hrs off but leave the setting on tomatoes .. to circulate water .. Add an small airstone too

K,so how much do think the AG pro 100 or 200 is.I know the base model is $150 rite now.

It actually controls the PPM and water level in pro model series?

i am pretty sure YOU will still have to add nutes to the AG as well as water.

adding nutes will control the ppm. the AG will tell you when to add water ad nutes if you use theirs.

in my most recent AG flyer, the AG pro200 is 199.99

the space saver 6 is 149.95

the classic is 149.95 with free gifts.the AG deluxe with hood extension is 229.95

the extensiion is 109.95

the AG pro 100 is 169.95

of course the flyer states that the deluxe model and pro models have "adaptive intelligence" to adjust water and ppm.

cant see how if you nee to fill it and add a dang tablet,

hmmmm sounds fishy

Does the pump run continuously ?
depends on the setting you chose.

after a point running the pump is pointless if you have air stone.

i found my pump would heat the water so i unplugged the AG and just run air stones.

cooler res better for plants

good machine to learn on.

way to expensive, rez is to small, lights are crap, you could do the filthy fletch do it yourself set up and still have money for a good light. I own one so i am not talking from inexperience, it is awesome for clones though, but still to expensive for that plus you will have to modify first by drilling holes in the back to run tubing for the air stones, then you have to rig something up to get the lights higher, and you have to change the water weekly which becomes quite difficult with large plants. Just an expensive hassle in my opinion.

I say u need to build ur own... i have an aerogarden, it was great to learn with considering i knew nothing about the nutrients light cycles or anything else. but thats what the aerogarden taught me. its great for growing autoflowering plants, check lowlife seeds for some badass seeds. i just built a 10 gallon rubbermaid hydroponic system that i havent got to test yet. and it was way cheaper than the aerogarden. so make ur own!

Yep, agreed. It's just too small to produce useful quantities of bud. Moreover, flowering with fluoros will give you sparse, fluffy buds.

An Aerogarden might make a very nice beginning for a cloning setup (would need an enclosure with thermostatic temp control) to feed plants into a grow op of a useful size.

I think I'd like an Aerogarden for my kitchen herbs, but there's no use for one in my grow op.

I agree with shenagen...the aerogarden sucks...I have one and after you end up modifying it to make it work you could have bought a real system....

Brand new to growing, the AG has taught me some things I will take with me as I look to build my own or get a better system. I had NO clue about any of this beginning and now, after lurking on this sight for 3 months, am looking forward to harvesting the AG grow and giving it to my wife to grow strawberries!

I don't have any other experience, but can see that some of the troubles I've had are directly related to the size of the AG alone.
