TGA Third Dimension duds?

Up until now, (mainly due to paranoia of ordering seeds online) I have only tried germinating my own fresh seeds which were produced on my first grow from bagseed, and have had nearly 100% germ success in my short history of growing. (They usually pop in 24-48 hours)

I finally took the plunge and ordered a 5-pack of TGA's 3rd Dimension. I ordered from JamesBean, the seeds came quick, and also two freebies (Vashon's Durban Skunk).

I decided to germinate all 7 seeds using the usual paper towel method. Only 2 of the 5 3D germinated, and it took them about 5 days to pop, and one of those died. So I have one 3D plant which will probably be male judging from how quickly it is growing.

The Durban Skunk both germinated, but one of those died as well.

So my question is: Did I get some old seeds, or is this typical for TGA, or purchased seeds in general? I don't like paying $50 for one or two plants.

Sadly man I would not be surprised if those 3rd Dimensions were a bit old. I live near TGA/Subcool and I don't often see this variety around. Seems like most of his other crosses are more popular. Sorry about the bad experience man, TGA does put out some great stuff. =/

Damn. I think I have a couple left a couple years old. I may have to pop one next round. It's very good weed. Maybe old. Maybe different temp from the previous grow at germination? Lot's of variables. I have found that for me too much water on my paper towel and not warm enough can be a problem. I'm not saying that is what has happened but in my short grow life I try to pay close attention to my failures. Some don't use a paper towel. I use a slightly damp paper towel for a couple days at 75 degrees to 78 on a mat. If they don't sprout in a couple days I get my Dixie cup ready anyway and plant it then put another clear Dixie cup on top for a dome then it goes on the mat. Not too much water on the promix. You should see condensation on the inside in a day or so. I've had some take a couple weeks to germinate.

Yeah, I kinda wondered how fresh they'd be since I never hear much about 3rd dimension. I like the idea of a 49 day flower period, which was my main reason for ordering. If it turns out to be male, I think I'll breed it with my own milk-jug cola seeds that are super slow finishers. Maybe it will make something interesting.

I've started most of my grows in November, using a heat mat under a dome. Almost always use taco bell napkins, lol. I start by soaking seeds in a shot glass until they sink. Sometimes my seeds pop in the water in less than a day. These ones finally popped, but the shell would not open enough to allow the root tip to come out, even after several days, and finally it became mushy poo. I tried to help one out of its' shell, and it shot up a cotyledon, but died soon after.

Probably a bit old then. I store mine in a metal tin with a desiccant pack in the basement. I have a bit of money invested in seeds now. I need to start cycling the older ones through as some are 4 years old. But some of the new stuff available now is just to tempting. I have some more coming as we type and more drops coming. Some of the new purple or pink strains are amazing. Yes I have a problem.... I'm waiting for some @RM3 gear to try. So many breeders coming out since legalization. I am a seedaholic.

I'm amazed at how expensive the little barstards are. I have been storing my seeds in envelopes in a cardboard box. I figure the paper will keep them dry enough, especially since I live in the middle of the desert.

Well I live in the desert. tomato seeds last around 5 yrs boiling in my shed however, they only cost a buck. Pot seeds are best kept in the frig and should last 5years. If u have a deep freeze -10+ they are supposed to last 20yrs. They should be dtored in an airtight container. The seeds should be packed securely and protected from shock. the seeds become brittle and if dropped shook in as vial etc.
I had a couple of the flat disk shaped containers with cotton in my reg freezer planted 5 or 6 seeds only 2 popped. This is unusual for me I expect 80% germination min. and usually get 100% unless seeds are 5+ yrs old. I recently found a qt jar of shake packed tight there were seeds they have been in the deep freeze ~ -20 F 2years I'm going to germinate some soon. I know that some say this is too risky. Well they also say that weed freezes at 32 F. I had an afghan # 1 outside harvied 11/28 after 6 in snow and temps in the mid teens. the plant lost all fan leaves. Even when the temps were only 40's - 50's it started new lime green leaves. It also reeked. Now I can barely smell the shit but this stuff made the whole house smell like dank weed. I am looking for a strain that makes me tired consistently. I got some canatonic from a dispensary yrs ago it worked for a couple of days then it didn't. dex and coffee buz is slowing down. My final thought is don't believe everything u read testand verify. there is a lot of junk out there. I've tried a lot. my additives work for me. safer caterpillar killer bt , Microbe-lift mosquito control for fungus knat larvae 1 drop in container. they say 2.5 mg per 1000gal so 1 drop works for anny container. the garbage about hazards etc is just that lawers and all.

Thanks for the info. I planted a seed from one of my plants in a dixie cup the other day, and it sprouted out of the soil within 24 hours. I guess the best thing is to breed and produce your own seeds, then no worries regarding freshness eh?

A word of caution concerning breeders claimed finish times. Sometimes, especially with hybrids, the plant doesn't read the hype and finishes when it's damn good and ready. Good luck.

Hahaha. Well anything will be better than my previous grows which took 100+ days.

3D IS fast, so I think you'll be all set between 45 - 65 days, pheno dependent. It has been known to finish in northern latitudes outside late Sept. / Early October too.
I hope the one that survived is a girl. I popped 5 more of my 'bigasscola' seeds for insurance though.

I popped a 5 pack last January, got two boys and 3 girls. Some of the best weed I smoked this past year; planning to crack some more soon.
Hey Amos, I have a pack of these that I plan on popping soon... you are one of the only dudes I've seen or read of growing it. Do you care to elaborate on which phenos your females were? From my reading there is a shorter pina colada indica leaner and a taller sativa leaner, but I'm sure there are more.
I'm content with either sativa or indica leaning... I was mostly looking for a tropical terpene profile. Thanks!

It's been some years and many joints. All I can remember is that it was very tasty, finished quick, and solid stone.
