Testing Par of Gavita with Apogee mq200, elec or sun?

Just like the title states, which setting is recommended for testing hps lamps? Elec or Sun mode? Usually i use the elec mode for my led panels.

Id like to test the par on the gavita de as well as SE 1000 hps.

thanks

I'm assuming the topic starter has both and wants to compare how they perform in his space. The answer would be that it won't matter too much which setting you use when comparing the DE to SE. When the spectral distribution of the lights is similar the PAR measurement errors will be similar too.

When comparing to the led panel it does matter, because the light is different. Not sure which setting to use to minimize measuring errors then.

Check growershouse blog. Already done.
I still fail to see how those matrices are useful for anything. At best it shows that the Gavita has a much wider beam angle than the AC/DE.

At 36" the Gavita will have a footprint which is 5m (more than 16') wide while they measure only a 2.4m (8') wide square. Which means they are only measuring something like a third or quarter of the total output of the Gavita. What's the point?

gavitas have their place (high warehouse). most people with 8 foot ceilings do better with acde or boss
Why would it be better to hang the light with the widest beam angle as high as possible? Shouldn't it be the other way around?

The ac/de with it's narrow beam angle is designed for small single light grows. The Gavita Pro's are designed for large professional grows and would be better for anything with more than say 2 or 4 lights.

because 99% of the time in high warehouse applications they are multi-fixture setups and the overlap is where gavitas do well

i wouldnt call it overly narrow. vast majority of growers are under 4000W btw

Yes, but you specifically mentioned ceiling height twice.

Especially if I had only 8' height my choice would be the Gavita and not that AC/DE. Not only because of the beam angle, but that huge reflector of the AC/DE with the bulb so far up inside is going to lose even more light than the Gavita reflector.

i wouldnt call it overly narrow.
Neither did I, but it is less useful for large professional greenhouse grows where HPS is used as supplemental light.

BTW Gavita also has a replacement reflector for their Pro fixtures with a narrower beam angle. Which makes it more suitable for single or double light grows. That would produce a PAR matrix more similar to that of the AC/DE

These things are used by the hundreds (if not thousands) in greenhouses. Perhaps the numbers of those big grows is lower than the number of hbby growers with a single light, but the fixtures sold for specifically "under 4000W cannabis grows" is only a fraction of Gavita's total sales.

How happy are you with this? I am wondering how it compares to a 600 watt HPS............
Definitely better than my single ended 600 hortilux HPS. But my main use is replacing 1200 watts of HPS with 825 watts in a 4'x8' with the same yields as the 2 600 I used to run.

I only ask because I usually run the Hortilux bulbs and ballast but recently had my Gold E ballast blow again (2nd one; no issues with the Platinum 1K though) and I am trying to get it replaced under warranty but still looking to other options as I am expanding. My Gorilla tent has 8 foot ceilings so I have options and I have the 1K HPS for one side of it but looking for the other and the local shop has one of these 600-750 Gavitas on hand on sale.....? I think a DE 1K would be too much for the tent not sure, and have seen mixed feedback on the DE 630's.........I have yet to use a DE bulb and just curious I like testing the different lights lol

you think that light would be overkill in a 3x4x8 set on the lowest setting, 600?
Actually the flex will run down to 500 watts. But yes it would be overkill in a 3x4, and would be a bitch trying to cool that small of an area with it. From my experience 600 watts of single ended is the perfect size for a 4x4.
With the right strains my 4x4 with a single 600 will produce almost 2 lbs of dried product.
