Testers: Opinions and Stand Outs

Hello RIU.

I consider myself a newb, with only a few grows under my belt, but I have found myself gravitating towards tester strains.

I understand why people might avoid these wildcards. Spending a minimum of 3 to 4 months to grow out something that even the breeder can't BS about regarding the end results is a considerable gamble.

I make no qualms about it, I do not like paying more than about 5-10 bucks for a seed. My first interest is in the reduced (or free) cost of these genetics.

I also distrust marketing in general, much less folk's selling genetics that would be difficult to prove, and overlook genetic variation, and the replication of results in vastly unique growing environments. In essence, I feel every new strain I grow is a test.

Let's discuss opinions about growing these out, and let us know if you found any diamonds in the rough.

I honestly like growing anything, i've learned atleast for me, the more i grow the more i learn. I've had same genetics react different to the same growing medium and water, so i have to dial in accordingly. I'm also always on the hunt for what I call the best high's for different occasions, mostly medical reasons.

If you dont mind the gamble and want veriaty they sure established that. It might be alright where its at and I have found my first keeper that way. If I liked the cultivar and their description was reliable Id try again like I am. When I feel like gambling I try a new cultivar but knowing more about how it goes I guess I cant be mad at a dud.

Clones will save but so will creating your own seed bank but its repetative gets boring. There are different kinds of joy moments with that. Its not hard to get some CS and make some seeds Im about to. Its like a accidental pollination with herms but intentional.

Im a newbie with that tho got lots to learn but the traits I need are harder to find and thats another thing. What do you really want out of it? I feel like people can help better and once I knew, the rest is falling into place. With less rare traits you may not have to About to get 100 seeds for 700 bucks and might not need to spend that again.

Even if I do it provided way more than what I spent in personal consumption so could see it that way. When ready for something new could simply cross it with a good plant you have. Where it gets fun is if you get reg seeds and get a male you get hidden traits in offspring. Breeding is crazy I suggest anyone get into it. Im not breeding for the market just my personal self which many do.

I do suggest just messing around with hands on for a few years before to be better prepared for it.

Likewise. I joke that I will grow and smoke anything once.

I got into growing to replicate the experience with Forbidden Fruit. After learning it is a clone only strain, and that a c-bill or two plus on a single plant is not economically viable for me (although I am learning to clone effectively currently, if I can get it down the investment might be worthwhile).
Until I am willing to invest in that cutting, I am somewhat happy just exploring what is out there in the genetic pool. its about is safe a toss at chance as buying a white labeled seed with who knows what genetics.
