Temperature when making cannabutter?

How do you giys/gals measure the temp of the Water/Butter on the stove top? I've never decarbed in the oven and recently saw a thread where 220-230° for 3 hours completed the decarb and THC into butter all at the same time. I didn't think water thermometers went that high. Am i wrong? I can't decarb in the oven because landlord lives downstairs and i wanted to try it for another batch to see the difference. Thanks. Pics or links of what you use much appreciated.

if i'm making butter, i've found that getting it to a good boil in the crokpot then putting it on low all night is sufficient to decarb, if i'm not making butter, i'm decarbing qwiso. i'll heat up some cooking oil in a pot and put my qwiso in a glass beaker, then just watch the surface while stirring. when the little carbon bubbles quit forming, it's done. usually takes 20 minutes or so, with the oil at 300, most of it is waiting for the concentrate to get to temp, the actual decarb part is maybe 5 minutes

a good digital thermometer, or a mechanical candy thermometer is required for those temps.

It solidifies quicker. At room temp it is hard. Also because it is mostly saturated fat you can get twice or better of the thc per cup in coconut oil. I get it at costco where it is about half the price everywhere else and when you bake it in cookies it has a pleasant flavor.

and STRONG...

Sunflower lecithin too for the win.

I put a quarter pound of white rhino buds and trim in 3 cups of coconut oil and those were dangerous cookies for many...i found it pleasant but intense.

:)

I use a mgbm2 and i run it at 180 for 8 hours and then 160 for 8 because i like to get it all. And wow does that work. :D
Not spending $175 on something that half people love and other half complain about if i can just do sauce pan on stove. Im just not sure if any digital thermometer will work at 220-230° or do i need something specifically for cooking with boiling liquids like candy and soups or whatever

I have no doubt you can find a digital thermometer for less than 15$ in most decent chain grocery stores, walmart, target etc. They go well over 220 f. Also there is a mega thread on another site. Its called something like another tincture thread. Lots of great info on different decarb times with lab tests. Folks there have settled on decarbing flower by itself in oven first for 45 min at 240f. And there test show damn near full decarb. I think decarb times change when when flower is mixed with the oils, butter first.

using the same carbon filter that you use for you grow wouldnt be effective to keep the decarb in the oven smells away from the landlord like you do for your grow ?
What carbon filter fir my grow XD i just try to limit smell by strain and keeping it in a tent in closed room. Last grow didnt have too strong odor.

Im not trying to decarb seperatly in oven. Test results from another member here had 97% THC activation while decarbing the same time as fusing to the butter. He said 220-230° stirring every 5 min to loosen all trichs for 90 min. Thats my goal. Decarb the same time i cook the butter.

costs too much, especially when i can do pretty much the same thing in a $20 crock pot

No need to decarb if simmering for a long period of time. If I do decarb, I prefer lower temps for longer times vs high temp and shorter times. Like 180 for 50-60mins in a sealed foil pouch.

My favorite method. Put a quarter of ganja and a stick of butter or coconut oil in a mason jar and sous vide for 6-8hrs at 180-185. Sometimes I use grape seed oil, then add it to a tincture bottle for some fun on the go.

It's just another gimmicky product that takes up counter space. Save your money and use what you already have in the kitchen.
