Switching my 400w MH/HPS to an 8 Bulb T5 Setup

I'm thinking of switching my 400w MH/HPS grow tent setup over to a T5 setup (for two or three plants)

Currently, my 400w MH/HPS grow tent setup consists of

  • hood/light/4"inline to cool hood
  • 4"inline/duct silencer/carbon filter for extraction
If I switch over to an 8 bulb t5 system (for veg AND flower) can i:

  • get rid of one of my inlines and only use one for carbon filtration/extraction?
  • what kind of hit will I take on yield if I only use t5s throughout veg and flower?
Thanks guys.

Use t5s to veg and the hps to flower. You will be glad not mad like if you went all thru with the t5s.

thanks for the intel. i'm actually rethinking my entire setup right now (i'm growing in an apartment). i think that i am going to switch from a grow tent in the closet setup to a stealthier cab grow so I can lock up the whole system nice and tight in the very unlickely event someone unexpected shows up.

Because I'm probably going to go the cab route, i think the t5 makes the most sense, despite the loss in yield. i'm only gonna grow three plants at a time for personal use.. I think that for my situation, taking a hit on the yield is worth the stealthiness/security of a T5 cab setup.

If thats how you feel go for it.Good luck.

With T5's you may want to consider more plants. The main problem with the switch is light intensity. T5's will only penetrate a couple inches into the canopy.
SOG is the answer. A 4'x4' cabinet can hold as many as 64 little budsickles in six inch pots. Basically little sticks with a bud on top with no branching at all.
You're still going to lose yield. Just not so much.
You can also run a perpetual setup in there and never run out of bud!
