Swazi Red Question.

Obvious Newbie here. I'm about to show my lack of knowledge when it comes to types of MJ. I had no clue sativas & indicas gave contrasting highs. I want to grow a pure sativa and I'm looking for opinions on swazi red; 100% Sativa

Direct from Africa comes this pure African landrace sativa! Swazi Red is a high yielding and resinous sativa which produces a strong natural high. This strain has a strong odour which has been compared to a fine cigar with an "earthy" smoke and a high that is energetic and clear. The colas on this plant can reach the size of an adult's forearm and are typically compact and very sticky. This famous strain is renowned for its spectacular red color at maturity. 100% pure African landrace sativa!

This is copied from highgrade-seeds.com. Anyone ever purchase from them? Also how accurate is the info about the strain? I figure $45 bucks for 10 seeds for smoke that good isn't too bad. Any & all info is appreciated. Thanks!

Ok, I'm grave digging this thread I know but no one took the time to reply to this 4 years old thread and I found it looking for Swazi Red reviews online. So here's my experience with Swazi Red:

I travelled to South Africa about a year ago and while there I bought some weed off the streets (I was with a South African who actually did everything). It was very different to European and North American weed. Buds weren't dense and frosty like I usually get them locally, there were all bushy and at first I thought there were just packed-compressed leafs. The colour was an amazing red though. Also, it came in a matchstick box. God knows how many grams we bought that night, the vendor only sold matchstick boxes full of that genuinely sativa weed.
You could tell if was grown outdoor without much care (later I read that it was grown in Swaziland and in large scales). Manicure was pretty much rubbish and I don't even think it was cured at all. Decently dried though. The taste and smell weren't very good but I'm used to high quality European weed so ...
Despite all that, the high was perfect for me; pure Sativa like. I loved it. I wanted to take some back with me but I didn't take the risk. I saved some seeds though (roughly 50) and I started growing it indoor about 2 months ago. I want to see what this weed looks like properly grown, manicured and cured.

My advice about growing it is that it's not really good for beginners, like most Sativas and especially landraces like the Swazi Red. It will not grow small and bushy like Indicas or most hybrids containing strains like the Skunk. It will need more light and more care as it will tend to grow tall (reported 3 meters high outdoor, and seeing how it grows in my "lab" I assume it's very likely to even grow taller) and it really does take it's time. Vegetative state will not be problematic as long as you don't let it grow too tall (I don't know the english word for using ropes to bend the plant and make it grow secondary branches instead of letting the main cola grow very tall and have little harvests). Once you are done with the vegetating stage (bending and maybe cutting a little bit) they can go in the flowering room. Well, this is when it starts to take it's time. Takes a good week just to know the sex and a total of 13 to 15 weeks for the buds to mature entirely (from what I read - but seeing how the buds grow slowly I assume it's about true). Increased flowering time (compared to AK-47 for instance - #1 beginner's strain imo) will also increase the risks of getting insects and/or mold which is not good as well as basically any other problem. Not to mention you might get impatient, especially if it's your first grow.

I haven't harvested my first batch yet, and I'm only a month through the slow flowering process. All I can say is that the buds seem to be very dense and they also tend to grow tall even if I tried to grow my plant as bushy as possible. If I remember about this thread, I will post pictures of the buds along with a smoke report when I have tried them.

Anyway, I loved this smoke even though it was of very poor quality and I really can't wait to try the exact same weed but grown in proper conditions !
