Super Lumens?

im woundering if anyone has or is using the ballast i have. its a "Lumatek" supports mh/hps. it has a feature switch on it that says super lumens. on the box it says it gives 20-30% more lumens. more light=bigger harvest.... im very curious about trying this but dont wana come home to find my house burnt down. it gets hot enough as it is. does anyone know if this feature is safe? its 400watt. i would assume this option really "works" the bulb hard to produce more light. advise is appreciated. ALSO lol anyone who can help with my other post plz do :) [scroll to bottom for new pics] https://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/287150-cfl-hps-closet-grow-great.html

I have one of the new dimmable lumateks as well but I haven't tried the super lumens feature. I'd think it is safe but it will substantially reduce the lifetime of the bulb. 600w bulbs aren't super cheap for me, so I'm not going to fuck around with the feature. It is nice to be able to turn it down and run a lower wattage bulb from a higher powered ballast, though.

Sure, it will reduce the life of the bulb, maybe even as much as half. But, I would think that the increase in yield would make up for that on the first harvest, by a long shot. Hell, an extra quarter oz would pay for a new bulb. And, that bulb is going to last for quite a few harvests, so it would pay for itself many times over. I'd certainly use that feature if i had it, because you'd probably get $500+ worth(probably more. I didn't do the math) of weed for the price of buying an extra $30-90 bulb.

I'd say super lumens means the output rated as and the other setting is a rollback from that.

thnx for the replys ppl. i probly will try it eventually while im home. i do have a spare hps. not mh tho. i can only fit 2 plants in my friends basement closet. i have 3 now making it difficult for more light to hit lower regions of the plant.
