SunRise hanging system- can't get it to hold position!!! ARGH

anybody have any suggestions? i can't get the bloody things to work... in the destructions it says to tie the string to my light hangers, but i swear it has to go the other way... i didn't think this would be so hard! it just wants to pull my light up to the ceiling

just in case anyone has a similar problem, and searches and finds this thread, here's how i solved it:

i just took a couple of (small, but heavy-duty) clamps (usually used for holding glued wood together) and clipped em onto the strings, right at the top next to the thing that reels in the string... that keeps it from reeling in the strings and pulling my light up to the ceiling.

i have a feeling that if i didn't have an el cheapo lightweight econo hood, that the extra weight of a better hood would keep the light down without the clamps, but the fancy hood will have to wait til i got some more bread to spend...

it's still worth it to have the hanging system... it was a major pain in the ass to adjust my lights with chains before that.

i'd be interested to hear what other people have devised to suspend their lights for easy adjustment... tried searching, didn't stumble across any other threads.

i just took some pics and i'll post em in a couple minutes... gotta figure out how to upload them cause i'm using a different computer (two days ago my hard disk failed on my other one)

Not sure what things you have but I know on yo yo hangers the kind you pull down and cord comes out of the assembly then back up when you raise it.Its like standard house blinds you gotta pull it down then forward to lock it in place usually an arrow showing the lock unlock direction to tug the line

Problem solved..
I used a large soup can to add weight to my light , and now it works great.

Cool... that looks like it will work well for you. i would have done the same thing, but theres not as good of a lip around the top of my hood to prevent a weight from sliding off. i don't trust it not to tip with fans blowing and me walking around it... so here's how i dealt with the problem:

for some reason i can't post the pic of the clamp in the post, so see the thumbnail at the bottom for that...

below, you can see my hood didn't come with hangers, so i made them out of clothes hangers:

yeah, that's what i figured, but it doesn't seem to work that way for some reason... you're supposed to tighten the wingnuts when you're at the level you want, but that only locks it from sinking down further, it doesn't prevent the yo-yo from reeling back in... so if the stuff hanging on the other end of the line is not heavy enough, it just reels all the way back in.

maybe there's a way to do this that's incorporated into the design of the SunRise system, but i can't figure it out, and there aren't really clear directions... couldn't find anything on the web either... i'll ask the guy at the grow shop next time i'm there.

well you could go real low tech and simple.Just use closes pin on the lines.Set the height then put 1 close pin or office clip right at the yoyyo spoil so the line cant go in cuz the clip or pin is a stop

true. i used the wood clamps i have because i had em on hand. but, i like how strong they are for little clamps, and also that there's rubber tips on em... don't want to have the rig spring when i'm out and about and then come home to a burnt down house lol
