Sunlight window grow to HPS flowering

So I had a plant growing in my window for the past couple months, and it started flowering, much to my surprise. It was such a hassle trying to keep it dark during the night hours that I decided I might as well set up a grow space for it and get lights. After considering CFLs for a while, I realized it wasn't really much more expensive to just go for HPS, and so I bought a 250w.

I'm curious how the plant will react to the change in lighting. I'm assuming that it will be getting more light overall, which will be beneficial to developing buds. However, the plant grew in such a way as to receive sunlight mostly on the one side, and I'm wondering if the light coming from directly overhead won't be as effective as it might otherwise be. Also, it will already be a few weeks into flowering by the time I have it set up, but it's been going pretty slowly. I first noticed the white hairs about two weeks ago, and that's still all it has. No noticeable budding yet, but the hairs are now all over the plant.

Anyone with experience have an input? It's basically going from outdoor to indoor, which I'm sure has been done before by some of you.

Thanks
