Sudden ph drop, yellow leaves

I had a hydro-setup with a 20 gallon reservoir, with just 2 plants in, they were doing fine till a few weeks after bloom. The ph started dropping a lot all the time. I would ajust it to 5.5 or 6, but it would always drop down to 4 again after maybe 12 hours. The leaves got yellow and just fell of..The water also started to smell really funky :S

I have also had 4 plants in a smaller tank, about 7 gallon, and they were also growing and thriving, but then the leaves on those also started yellowing, and yesterday I saw the ph had dropped from 5.8 to 4! These were not put in bloom yet.. No changes made, just been keeping the same levels as always. About 5.5 ph, and 1,7 ec. They havent shown any sign of overnutrition.
What the **** could this be? Please, does anyone know?

they r drinking more than they r eating .ull need 2 check ph often and see at what rate theyre drinking so u can adjust 2 ure schedule ,so long as it doesn't coincide with her schedule . just like a woman
