Does this look like a FIM failure? Should it be topped instead right now??

Hard to tell from the pic it will probably work,you want to remove 80% of that growing tip.Make sure when you cut you gather up the small leaves with it and cut to the base of them.If you dont,they will continue to grow from that node all screwed up.

If theres a question you can remove that whole growth tip,but leave a little stump,it will make the junction much stronger.

Yeah you gotta wait it out a bit. Mybad i didn't notice it was still fresh growth in the first pic. Give it about a week.

It was clipped probably a week and a half ago.. in the first pic you can see the messed up fan leaf on the bottom
