strange burning smell

ok im a noob...i started some bagseed about three weeks ago...been using cfls...just got 400 watt metal halide and its the first time ive used such a big light.......about a week and a half after starting the seeds my plants had little spots on em..i did the research and did the paper test and determined i have spider mites......i ordered ladybugs to fix that problem and them little guys are sure doin a great job......i feel bad about this but OK heres my question..has anybody used ladybugs and metal halide bulbs together..........im almost sure that the ladybugs hitting the bulb and burning are the smell but im worried that my light alone might be the smell....probably a stupid question but i feel i should ask.......by the way i did spray the ladybugs with sugar water but some still fly..
