Strain Comparison

High All,
I don't know if this will be useful to anyone, but I started growing 10 different strains all under the same conditions and most are about half way through veg -- and the differences between the various types are notable. The types are Vanilla Kush and Top Dawg from Barney's Farm, Cole Train from Reserva Privada, White Widow from Nirvana, and Blueberry, Orange Bud, Mekong High, Skunk #11, Big Bud, and The Ultimate from Dutch Passion. All are feminized.
The basic set-up (Pic #5) is a StinkBud-type aero system, and I'm using Botanical nutrients. The left tub (Pic #4) has the Skunk in the back left, VK is front left, Blueberry is front right, and hidden behind the Blueberry is the White Widow (a closeup of the WW is in Pic #2). The right tub (Pic #3) has another VK back left, Orange Bud back right, another VK front left, Mekong High front right, and hidden behind the MH is The Ultimate.The lights are eight 4 foot T5 high output florescents, and I started the seeds under 24 hour light and switched to 18/6 when I started veg. The majority of the seeds were germinated exactly 5 weeks ago, but note that TD, CT, BB, and TU were all germinated about 8 days after the others. Top Dawg and Cole Train sprouted but died shortly thereafter, so the Big Bud and The Ultimate are the only ones left that are 27 days old.
Here are my observations:
1.) The clear winner in growth is the Skunk. It outpaced all the others from the beginning and has good branching and will have lots of buds. It seems to want a PPM of about 1750;
2.) The clear losers -- besides the ones that died -- are the Big Bud and the WW. Both had very slow growth and were very sensitive to nutrients -- in fact, I had to put the BB back in the cloner where the PPM is about 400, mostly Clonex. It's leaves are very deformed (see Pic #1);
3.) I started out with 10 seeds of Vanilla Kush, but only 8 sprouted. Since then, I have thrown away 5 others because of slow growth and dark drooping and/or deformed leaves, which I think is the result of a high sensitivity to nutrients. I'm not sure about this, since I changed the nutrient level often to get them to look healthy, but they didn't seem to respond very well to anything I did. The 3 that are left are still growing slowly, but appear healthier and have lost their dark color and drooping leaves. I emailed Barney's Farm and asked them for help over a week ago, but they have not responded.
4.) The Orange Bud and the Blueberry are doing great -- about equal and right behind the Skunk in growth.
5.) The WW is so small that I took a closeup of it (Pic #2)-- in the rest of the pics it's completely hidden behind the Blueberry. It is a third the size of the Skunk.
6.) The Ultimate is doing OK, but seems small for it's age (27 days).
All, except the Big Bud, are now taking a PPM of about 1750 -- several days ago I ran it up to about 1900 and most started showing signs of over-fertilization, so I backed it off.
I have been keeping the PH at 5.8, the room and water temps at about 70, the pumps are 1/4 minutes on/off, and the room's humidity is right at 50%.
Let me know if anyone has further questions.
All the best,
Robert in Arizona
