stem problem?

I have a question about the stems of my plants. There are two small leaves that look like the original sprout leaves in the middle of the plant. Above that point the stem is twice as thick as from there to the soil. Is this normal? Should something be done? If it is a problem could the stem be cut below that point and rerooted with hormone?

wow, what is your light? they look way stretched....i dont think your having a problem though other than not enough light....I have had tropicals before do this and they are still alive also.....you may have to keep it staked forever though.......

You know I think I figured this out just before I read your post. When I first germinaged the seeds. I put them in pots set them in front of my window and waited to get a light. The stems on two of the four that started streached out and broke. I staked these two and they survived. I bet dollars to dougnuts, that the low hours of light this time of year made the internal clock try to start flowering state or at min. goof up the plants. I have since put them under a 18-6 Flor. 2 foot light. I am buying a 150w HPS to replace the Flor. For now I bring them out of the grow room and sit them on the window ledge and let them soak up the sun then back in the grow room for the balance of light. This new sprout has not jumped out of the pot like the first two, and has a much thicker stem. Take a look.
